Most excellant advice Maksim

A wife is like a Communist State, she is willing to share everything you own :D

And if she can't use it then you don't need it

So I got my children playing from day one, therefore it became a family thing and Ok.

Now the children are grown, the wife got empty nest syndrome and got Cockatiels to fill the void. It started with two, and now it's twenty three (I built an aviary for them all), and now she has her Cockatiels, and I have my wargames, and all is well in Oz......

Jaldon :O :)

Don`t quit!, I`m 36 and can say I enjoy this hobby even better than before, I paint more, read more about war and history, and have more money to spend in the hobby than when I was younger. Plus I don't spend all my nights and week-ends partying leaving more time for gaming.

Currently I am painting an Ork army, assembling a new styled Space Marine force, and will re-paint an older Eldar army, plus I have a few improvements to make to my old Blood Angel army. I also intend to get more into terrain building eventually (got myself some epic ruins off ebay) , and just started to be very curious about other wargames rules and mechanics (mainly ww2) and other scales too.

I also like to play boardgames with family and non-wargamer friends.

I you do quit maybe it will be just a break, I remember giving away all my paint pots to a friend when I thought I'd never play again, a year later I had to buy new paints...luckily I never gave away/sold my miniatures...

What I find that works for me is to thin the heard. Do not sell off what you will want later on, just what you have lots of. For example, I am keeping all my painted IG, but am selling off most of the Marines, Eldar, and Orks I have. I am keeping the rule books. That way I could return to play, but have reduced it down to three tubs (I do own more then 45k in guard, sick I know but what can I say).

Don't give up... start painting!

Make a promise to paint one TINY unit a month. Before you know it, your collection will be mostly painted.

Make tiny steps and work your way up...

It' can happen. Don't give up!

This is excellent advice and certainly matches my philosophy.

I have an additional strategy which is I try not to buy anything...

However if I paint something (a unit or similar) then I am allowed to buy something new.

For example, I allowed myself to buy a new 40K scale Grot Bomb Launcha because I had painted the Ork Skorcha I got for Christmas.

Once I have finished painting my FW Epic Ork Gunwagons then I may allow myself to buy some FW Epic Ork Battlewagons.

I still have boxes of unpainted models, however I am painting lots of miniatures and I am now rarely adding to the pile of unpainted stuff.

I use to at the end of each year have more unpainted models then painted models. Basically I use to buy more than I painted.

Now at the end of the year I have less unpainted models then I did at the beginning of the year.

I still buy new stuff, but I now only buy stuff I know I am going to paint, rather than because I want it.

I try not to paint everything, rather than paint all 12 of my Gunwagons, I paint three at a time.

I rarely paint for more than two hours in a session, sometimes it is only half an hour or an hour, which means I want to continue painting and don'r get bored or annoyed with it.

I'm finding that, the older I get, the less time I have for making/painting/gaming, and yet my ambitions INCREASE.  I have on the go TWO 40k Space Marine armies, a BFG IN Fleet, 5 (yes, 5!!!) Epic armies in various states of assembly and painting... when I eventually finish these, there's at least two more 40k Armis I'd like to do, at least one more Epic army, a Tyranid BFG fleet... and then there's my heart's desire, to have a giming room with not one, but FOUR gaming tables - a standard 40k one, a space ship-interior one for 40k, a 5 part modular Epic board, and a BFG space table...

If I ever get the time to do ALL of these I'll be very surprised, but it doesn't stop me dreaming! :D

With 9+ Epic Armies, starting in '90, I'm still working ... little by little !  IG, SMs (Loyal & Traitors), Orks, Eldar, Squats, Chaos and Titans are at 80-85% and counting ! 'Nids & Tau are SIB ! !!!   Terrain - it keeps growing ! !!!

the only problem with painting small amounts each month is that i've ran out of room to display them

So don't worry about displaying everything. I certainly don't have the space. Even if I had the room to display it all, my wife would kill me if I did!  :D

Hi!

Thats my problem. My dream is to get a bunch of curios to display them, but who am I kidding, I'd need a museum to showcase all my stuff....  :;):

I saw a documentary on Frank Frazetta (sp?) and his wife had just opened a museum to show his originals and his own art collection. It looked like they had just renovated a house.

So watch for one of the neighbors to sell, buy their house and then there you go. You could have the "Imperial Room" the "Chaos Kitchen" etc.
