Maksim,
What sort of monster would have it out with a University - other than a mutant-Vanvlak, anyway.... :p

Ok, bad day at work... sorreee.

Hi John,

I can think of a number of university-stomping scenarios including...

- The bug keeper whose radiocative spider bit Peter Parker instead of him... back for pay-back!

- The evil genius grad student who was denied his PhD.!

- "Return of the Cold War," a Russian grad student has created a terrible "RED" robot, which is ravaging across the campus looking for a good cabage head (Non-Russians never seem to eat enough cabbage in Russian eyes...)!

- "Sociology is a REAL science" protesters create a mosnter combining their collective unconscious impulses creating a HORRIFFIC monster of unknown capability...

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Ib,

Hmm...yeah that would work nicely. Nice idea, Maksim. ?
- The random violence thing was really a factor in the last game, which featured two monsters vs. me with the army. One of the monsters took most of the damage (and trashed most of my army in the process) while...

I always make any human army player possess the equivalent point total of all of the monsters combined. Sometimes, I give the human army player an additional bonus.

Most of the time, in larger games, I make the human army a referee-controlled faction.

- The other laid back and harassed my poor commuter train. (we have a special rule that if you sucessfully 'grab' a car off the train, you can shake it and see how many civillians come out :p ). Only near the end did the other monster attack the army.

I love the commuter train idea.

What are using for your civilian counters? The cardboard chits??

I haven't included any trains in my games yet.

I think next game we will use missions. ?
My 2cents,
Iblisdrax.

One thing about missions:

- You need to have good defined scenery to make for good missions.

- I have also found it useful to put number chits and name chits on top of buildings to make it easy for players to find them. I make the number chits with the toughness value of the building. It makes it easy for the players to see at a glance where an objective building is, how tough it is and how much it is worth.

- I generally give a point value for a building as: Building TOUGHNESS + random objective value.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Ib,

Quote (iblisdrax @ 20 2005 Aug.,10:51)
Oh, by the way, has anyone been able to sucessfully protect your scientist?
?

Yes. I've done it before.

My basic methadology is this: the army serves as a "buffer" bodyguard for the scientist, who is the only one with a real chance of stopping the monster with a device.

It's not easy though.

I let the army player secretly tell the referee when the scientist is going to accumulate invention points for a device. This makes monster players nervous, which can lead them into ambushes.

Making the scientist less of a "public" figure greatly increases their worth.

Mine got eaten before he could finish his work... :(

Bummer. It happens.

On the other hand, my jump pack troopers were well worth the points, harassing the #$#@ out of the monsters.
My 2cents,
Iblisdrax.

Jump troopers, Toho tanks, and the rest of the special units are much more effective than the standard human units, but can get swatted down pretty wuickly by a determined monster.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

P.S.
I have a side project to create minis for all of the devices used by scientists. I've been collecting bitz to make them.

I found a set of N scale people on sale at Hobbyland, and based them on the square bases, 3-5 on a base.  Out of that pack I got 4 civvie bases, 2 scientists, and an Idol stand.  All for $5 .  :D

my 2cents,

iblisdrax
