Thanks guys! I have a few projects I want to do in that time including completing my Flesh Tearers Battle Company, and my Word Bearer CSMs.

I have an interesting report to make actually.... ?

While in Adelaide, my mate James and I played some Memoir '44 games. ?If you arent aware of this game, it a very well made and constructed ww2 western front (Normandy) game which concentrates at the battalion level and you push small piles of plastic tanks and men around. ?Its pretty quick (1 hr per scenario) and a ?challenging game without vast tactical details.

You can see more of it here:
http://www.memoir44.com/

Well., after a few months of schemeing, we played our first trail game sof "Memoir '40K: in whih we substituted epic minis for Us and Germans, and used the unit details from the 409k card game 9attack ratings, strnegth and movement) which meshed in nicely. ?We added a few minor niceties (like jump pack inf and jet bikes ignore terrain, for example).

Guees what? ?It was very good indeed. ?We had a Marines vs Orks attack scenarion played out within an hour and with a few minor tweaks, all the game pieces played VERY much like they do in EA. ?It had speeders zooming along the front, assaultmarines leaping over hills and into the fray, Land raiders executing crushing assaults and devestators pouring heavy long range fire in. ?All very true to the 40k genre.

So with a few minor adjustments, we have developed a super rapid Epic game, which allows us to play in a fraction of the time! ?:) ?Next are some adjustments for the inclusion of characters...

Its a very interesting game.  Basically there are 3 types of units- Armour, Infantry and Artillery.  Infantry and move  and shoot or move 2, armour can move 3 and/or shoot, arty can shoot or move 1.  Arty and infnatry foire strenght degrades with range, tak firepower is constant.

The C2 and movement is the heart of the system.  the mapboard is cut into centre and left and right flanks.  You get 4-6 cards to start with and can play only 1 per turn, replacing it at the end.  A card may allow you to "Attack right flank - activate 3 units on right flank" or "Armour Assault - activate any 4 armour units" etc

It provides for many subtlties and the flavour of each army is captured in its number of cards (and thus flexibility) and its force ratio.  The forthcoming Eastern Front (and yes Finns!) will give a good IG style with the Russians too.

Sounds good. And it is even available in here. There is only one problem: the price. At 60EUR (72.5 $) it is not exactly cheap...  :(

Tas,

That game sounds pretty cool.  I love it when people take a game and adapt it for another with very few tweaks.

We were using components from 5 different games in the end, including markers and stuff!

Seriously, this game is very high quality and is value for money.  The components are very durable and nicely made.  Its available in Oz for A$77.

And since when do GW/SG guys get upset at price hikes and actually STOP buying?  I know we all make noise, and then make another order...:;):   :p

If you want to read reviews of the game (along with reviews of just about every other boardgame ever released) may I suggest:

Another cool link.

If you have BroadBand, you'll really enjoy this.  You can zoom in on any spot in the world.  The resolution varies with the location, but its still pretty cool!

OK broke out the paints and reconfigured the study from "Guest Room" into "Hobby Room" mode! ?And I am discovering how cool the "Rome Total War Soundtrack" is as painting background music!

My first project is to complete the Battle Company from the Flesh Tearer's Chapter, which you may recall I got some 33% finished last year. ?I intend it to be the Rapid Strike element of my SM Army, backing up the heavy firepower of my considerable Dark Angels Force. ?I also want it to be fluffy.

This is where I got to last time:

Thus I have gone for what I would consider to be a detached Battle Comapany organisation, rather than for any speciifc battlefield roles. ?Its ORBAT currently is:

Tactical Formation, with Captain and Rhinos
Tactical Formation with Rhinos
Devestator Formation in Rhinos, with 2 Dreadnoughts (old "Fury" style)
Assault Formation with Chaplain
? - Thus a total of 20 Stands = 10 Squads = 1 Company of Marines)
Thunderhawk Gunship OR Drop Pods (for the Assault Boys)
Terminator Detachment with LandRaiders optional
2 Formations of Land raiders (1 each of Mk1s and Mk2s)
1 Whirlwind Formation
1 Vindicator Formation
1 Space Marine Strike Cruiser

To be added later: Baal Predator Conversions.

The only thing I think they dont have is a Librarian or some attack bike/land speeders. ?Then again my DA Ravenwing brings those with abandon....

EDIT: ?Day 1 is over. ?Completed a Devestator Formation (and Rhinos), a Termie unit and a Whirlwind formation to 95%. ? Just got to do the fiddly little insignia now.

Found the missing bit from my Mk3 Thawk, so decided to go with it for now. ?Also considering swaping one of the Tactical formations into Razorbacks for a bit more grunt and survivability.
