Quote (Dwarf Supreme @ 22 2005 July,07:52) | Quote (dafrca @ 22 2005 July,15:04) | To be honest, not having any of the arms meant me not thinking about it, so in that case, I guess they could be large APCs.
APCs with major attitude. ?

I might be splitting hairs, but I prefer to think of it as a seige tower as L4 does. I have no problems with a titan acting as a siege tower, disgorging infantry into buildings. Acting as an APC, albeit a heavily armed and armored one, doesn't really fit. I have always thought of titans as land battleships. | Semantics in my mind. It is a vehicle that has the role to carries troops across the battlefield and delivers them where they need to go. Not the role I normally saw the Titan in. But as many have said, if given the right head and arms, well they can fit that role as well.
If I had the bits now would I make one because it sounds cool? Of course I would.
But is it the role I would have my Titan play in most games? No, not really.

I think "V" has it right ... of course as I have said before the whole Titan concept is "weak", IMO ... However, in this case, in a universe with Titans ... "In Rome, do as the Romans Do !"

Sure thats not very personable, but its not real "in your face I hate your guts and have made an effort to rip you limb from limb". ?Its more of a "wipe out that planet there - no that red one next to it. Yes, thats it. ?Now, where's that Lunch menu?"
On the other hand, it sounds like very civilised warfare navy style so I wont discount it!

None. I just wanted to point out that as effective as it is, its not very personal in the "I hate you" dpeartment.
I am quite happy with lobbing cruise missiles in from 100 miles to sea rather than charging stark naked at an enemy trench!

Sounds like this plan was dreamed up by a JASCO and carried out by the USMC. Works for me though.

As my brother would have said when he was in the US Army:
"I can't storm that trench, I sprained my uteris."

Hopefully after all that firepower goes in there won't be much left ... but churned up earth. I know how to call in CAS, FA and Naval Gunfire ... but we never got any training in calling in Orbital assets. Except of course in Epic !

Quote (gillyfish @ 11 2005 Aug.,13:29) | Er. Right. Not sure I followed that last bit!
Going back to the discussion about transporting troops, I agree that Titans should be able to deposit elite shock infantry for the storming of objectives/buildings.
However, I think that actual general trrop transportation should be vcarried out by the Capitol Imperialis (much as it did in 2nd edn., though with fewer troops!!). Smaller units can feel free to whizz round in Chimeras (possibly nipping out from the back of the Capitol Imerialis for a short picnic).
On a truly pedantic note, I think that there is a kind or precedence for Titans as (sort of) troop transporters; the Emperor titan could transport troops. Admittedly it needed a ridiculously large sheet to keep track of everything, but there we are. It was fun, but somewhat unwieldy!
 | True, the Imperator could transport troopers, but I would hardly consider an Imperator a tranpsorter. It's just waaaaay too slow! I think of the Imperator as a walking pillbox, providing far more protection than a static pillbox can provide. I do agree with your thought of a Titan carrying "elite shock infantry" , a la Corvus assault pod/head.
