In general, the trend for minis from AT to EA has been for significant improvement in detail and crispness.
The older figs have a certain nostagic feel to them and are the preffered figs for the romantic reliving their glory days, or the more budget focused.
Its all a matter of personal preference but I would consider the Deathstrike missile a classic case in point.
Having said that, the vast majority of my figs are SM2 era and I havent bought any EA figs yet! ...

I like different ones for different reasons... I think that a mix of different era/marks of miniatures is entirely apprpriate for the background of most races... I prefer the latest Warlord Titan, but there's nothing wrong with the older ones as they can represent Warlords from different Forgeworlds...
In my Iron Hands SM army, I've got 3rd Ed Epic Land Raiders, as they look like the older mark which Forgeworld produced a kit for, and I thought given the background of the Iron Hands it was entirely appropriate for them to take 'older' marks of vehicles...
No doubt that some of the ranges have improved, all the latest SM stuff is consistant with the latest 40k models, and appropriate for their background.
My all time fave Epic models would have to be: - current Warlord Titan: just iconic! - Imperator Titan: when I can get hold of one without having to remortgage, I'll most certainly be adding one of these to my collection! - 3rd Ed Epic Chaos stuff:perfectly matches the 40k models which were in production at the same time, shame they're so rare now (currently trying to get some of the chaos termies!)

Well, thanks for asking ! ? ? The E40K & New E:A are very detailed, but that made them "harder" to paint (?), because I like to make my models very detailed and even add transfers, if I can. I particularly like the detailed infantry figures of all types, for "personal" reasons ! ?I'm a big fan of "Allied/Coalition Warfare" ! ?The SM1 models/versions were of course, the ones that started it all ?and were still pretty good. I even have 3 dets of SM1 metal Mk.6 SMs ! ?Most of the SM2 mods were good, however, there were some that needed work like the Vindy, which I added bitz for detail ! ? ?And the Mk.1 T/hawk was "different" but still have it in my forces ! ?So I like them all (I have 9+ Epic Armies !), for various reasons ! It's all good !

Quote (primarch @ 11 2005 July,14:20) | Titans however, the old plastic beetle-back is still the KING! | Couldn't agree with you more, Primarch!
I'll agree that some of the vehicles released for E40k were an improvement over SM1/2, being more detailed. Some of the newer Eldar stuff is really good. Having said this, I have very few E40k minis. By the time it came out, there wasn't much I needed to flesh out my SM/IG/TL army. Plus, GW really jacked up the prices on the new minis (a trend which, sadly, continues.)
In terms of preference, for nostalgic reasons, I prefer SM2 minis, especially the infantry. Like Primarch, I prefer the generic IG stands and I prefer the square bases. However, I do plan on buying E:A minis. Especially the "new" Reaver, Phantom and Warlock titans. Oh yeah, let's not forget the steam gargant!
Overall, it really boils down to personal preference.

The local ancients will find no difficulty believing this, although those who don't know me will. I love the old shoebox Vindicator. And the Thunderbrick. I really like the new models, but the old stuf has that irresistible nostalgic feel..... so I mix all eras.

Hi Guys,
I like all of the models, but I think that my favorites are:
- The original Adeptus Titanicus / Space Marine 1rst Edition models.
They had so much character and I loved the original bonus models (Metal infantry, Thud Guns, Mole Mortars, Jet Bikes, etc.). The bonus Orkz were smashing. I love the half-track bikers and some of the other goodies.
While I like the original Beetleback, I like the E-40k Warlord better. It seems less cartoon-like and much more formidable. Of course, that could be that I liked the comic books that came with them talking too. Dan Abbet is great.
I think the Horus Heresy is also a much richer story than much of what came out later. The wargame "Horus Heresy" also helped it those models to come alive for me.
As much as I like my Thunder-bricks, the latest T-hawk model is the best by far. I love the detail and size of it. The 2nd edition / TL-era ones are nice, but very cartoon-like.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Me too - I love that game. I traded one from Mojarn a couple of years ago to replace my long lost one!
