Primarch,

I started assembly of some of my proxy infantry yesterday.

My only problem is that I bought my Scotia sci-fi infantry second-hand from Legion-4 and a few other sources so I don't know the product codes with 100% assurity.

I'm thinking about E-mailing the photos to the Scotia people after they're done to see if they'll ID them for me. Do you think that's a good idea?

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

P.S.
I still like the old Alternative Armies microscale infantry the best. They look great!

Yes,
I remember that I took some of the Scotia Infantry out of the bags and reorganized them forgetting who was who?! Doh!

A rare Homer Simpson moment! Sorry... :( ?

Alternate Armies made micro infantry? Enlighten me... I'll have to go to the site... ?

Hi!

That's a good idea, Maksim, heck they should even use your pictures on their site to ID their minis. I find it annoying that they and others have no photos of the darn things.... :(

It seems that between the lot of us, we have the makings of a rather large "proxies resource" going on. I took pictures of my Stellar Games stuff some time ago, where should I post them for viewing?

I am extremely curious to see the Scotia infantry and by the way, like Legion4, what are these "Alternate Armies" figures you make reference to? I don't seem to remember those.

Dafrca, Primarch, Others,

Perhaps one of my best finds was a big lot of old blisters with 6mm scale sci-fi infantry from Alternative Armies. You won't find them on their web site. I mentioned them before on NetEpic when I made lists of proxies for the group.

Apparently, at one time, Alternative Armies had plans to make much of their sci-fi line in 6mm to use in a special urban version of the game. It didn't sell all that well so they eventually stopped casting them and switched to 15mm and 25mm scales.

I had to write the company and inquire before someone found the old molds and offered to cast for me. I have contact information for anyone who wants to order.

I really like them and must take some photos for everyone. They look great!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

Thanks for the VERY informative post. You have listed a couple of companies that I was not aware had 6mm lines (Gladiator and Alternative). I think I will definitely finish that proxy list now.
Many thanks!
Peter.

We also forgot:

ADLER Sci-fi: I don't have any yet, but these are among the best 6mm sci-fi figures available (The one I've seen are scaled more around 8mm than 6mm).
Well worth getting.
http://home.clara.net/adlermin/scipages ... llery.html
http://home.clara.net/adlermin/
http://www.historicalminiatures.com/admasf.htm

GLADIATOR: Gladiator Games are due to release centaur like infantry for their 1/300th Hardkill Zythian range hopefully early in 2003.Should offer some interesting possiblities for creative list members. Their large four legged walker for the Zythians has been released (10 pounds each). They are Titan size with a good range of weapons for the five weapons points on the
walker. Well worth a look. http://www.gladiatorgames.co.uk/1_300th ... iction.htm

Here are the old ones (already posted once although updated with links):

Alternative Armies: I like their figures the best out of the many
proxies available even though they made a very short run of 6mm figures (very hard to find used or even new). Some of their "marines" look the praetorian guard from "Return of the Jedi." I'll have to send in the pictures. If anyone is
interested, I have contact information to order them (have to order special since they're no longer on catalogue). The 6mm units that I can offer you are as follows all are priced at 5.00p
sterling per pack.

1.FF5 Crusader city map unit.  This comprises of 8 sprues of 4 figures (3 types), 8 bases for four, two flags. total 32 figures.

2.FF10 Khan city map unit.  This comprises of 8 sprues of 4,4,2 figures (3 types), 6 bases, two flags. total 28 figures.

3.FF18 Levy city map unit.  This comprises of 10 sprues of 4 figures (4 types), 10 bases, two flags. total 40 figures.
www.alternative-armies.com

BATTLETECH: I have Davion, Kurita, and Elementals from the old Ral Partha line and they are very cool although scaled larger than Epic around 8mm (bigger than most Epic).
http://www.ironwindmetals.com/

CAV: Scaled very large at 10mm, but outstanding infantry figures and would make excellent proxies for Dreadnoughts.
http://www.cavhq.com/
http://www.reapermini.com/

GZG: These guys (Dirtside II and Future Wars) even have round bases that fit really well into plastic Epic bases. They're scaled around 6 to 7mm and look fine with most Epic pieces although they're pretty expensive (most packs have around 48 figures with bases although I don't remember how many
exactly). The variety of pieces is outstanding considering that it's pretty hard to make huge differentiation in 6mm scale.
http://www.gtns.net/gzg/

IRREGULAR: These are plain-Jane figures (the sci-fi ones) although outstanding value for the price. I scale them at around 6mm even though they're pretty blobby (Look fine next to Epic if much less detailed and, of course, blobby). I bought mine second-hand so I'm not sure which figures
are which code. I like them though. The NSF (new sci-fi) line is much better than the SF line (older Sci-if).

http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/in ... mindex.htm

OGRE: Very cool infantry pieces scaled at around 8mm (bigger than most Epic). They pretty much all look the same so they need good paintjobs to differentiate them. Some of the newer sets come with heavy weapons (a missile launcher and a support cannon) that are very nifty.
http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/
http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/miniatures/
http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/miniatures/otherminis.html

SCOTIA: The power armor guys are outstanding. The rest of them are very structurally weak, but neat-looking. I built the marines and guys I believe to be "rangers in combat envirosuits," which look pretty neat. Again, I bought mine second-hand so I'm not sure which figures are which code. A
bad part about Scotias is that they have a lot of casting errors (missing detail from thin parts of the hold like hands, arms, and legs). I scale them around 6mm and they look just fine next to most Epic figures.
http://www.scotiagrendel.com/scotia/index.html

------------------------------------------

In addition, I have a lot of microarmor infantry (H&R/Navwar, GHQ, C&C, Irregular, Mainforce Miniatures, etc.) that are well worth seeing. Ralph AKA Legion-4 recommends using microarmor figures for Inperial Guard. I quite agree. My Jordanians (complete with Keffiyeh AKA head wrap) look great
as Tallarns (So do the Egyptians for that matter).

Best regards and Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

*****
P.S.
Has anyone seen the 6mm H&R/Navwar Sci-fi figures?

How about the 10mm GROPOS Babylon-5 figures (now sadly out of print)?

I copied and pasted an old E-mail for you gentlemen.

I corresponded with one of the owners of Alternative Armies who offered to help me out and run some figures from the old molds. I'm hoping to organize a big group of us to make an order one of these days.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

P.S.
If anyone out there prays, could you put in a good word or two for me. I could use a little help lately!  :)

That covers it pretty well!

The GZG figs IMO are the best.

And Adler look very good from the photos.

The OGRE & Battle Tech Inf. are very nice but are too big, I think.

Gladiator's line sounds good but I've seen no pictures on their site, yet.

Brigade has some great looking Slimey Bugs, check out the site. "Pics be there!"

If anyone has pics of the Alternate Armies 6mm, please send them :o !!!

GROPOS - too Big from the old pics on the site, most of their AFVs are the size of Baneblades. But they looked like nice cuts. That's my take, I spent a little time surfing the sites awhile back... ?:D

I reorganized the list alphabetically:

--------------------------------------

ADLER Sci-fi: I don't have any yet, but these are among the best 6mm sci-fi figures available (The one I've seen are scaled more around 8mm than 6mm). Well worth getting.

BATTLETECH: I have Davion, Kurita, and Elementals from the old Ral Partha line and they are very cool although scaled larger than Epic around 8mm (bigger than most Epic). Now that Ironwinds is remaking them, they appear to be closer to 6mm again rather than 8mm. So basically, there are two different makes of these figures available: a smaller and a larger set.

CAV: Scaled very large at 10mm, but outstanding infantry figures and would make excellent proxies for Dreadnoughts.

H&R/Navwar: 6mm Sci-fi figures: I have never seen these figures, but have heard that they look very much like 1950's classic sci-fi or Buck Rodgers.

Speaking of GROPOS. I received two packs of troops that I got on ebay. They are pretty nice. I got one Minbari Infantry pack and one Earth Infantry pack. However, imho they are too big to mix with epic.  :{ I no longer want them.  :(

Yeah,
From the old pictures, the GROPOS line looked too big (10mm), unless you were going to use them as a race(s) of giants!!!

Signius,
I also sent you a letter today...
Thanks ... :;):

Legion-4 made the following proxy suggestions on the "Anyone making E-A IG militia / hive gangers?" thread:
http://www.epic40k.co.uk/epicomm....try5667

---------------------------------------------

APD6a ?DEFENDER? (Armageddon Pattern)
The Defender, I'd use a Chimera or even a Rhino chassis.

The 210mm, a WWII German, US or Russian FA from GHQ.
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/catalog.php3
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/item/G500
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/item/R31

The 85mm AAA, the same from GHQ, too.
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/catalog.php3
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/item/G14
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/item/G69

Militia, there a lot of WWII Infantry to choose from.
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/catalog.php3

IG Stormtroopers, GZG - NAC or NSL Infantry.
http://www.gtns.net/gzg/

Tarantula - Brigade has a great piece for that.
http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/NoFrames ... 0-309.html

Thud Gun - GHQ Ger. sIG 33 or UK 25 lber.
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/catalog.php3
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/item/G124
http://www.ghqmodels.com/M/item/G123

GHQ, Brigade & Days of Empire have a lot of options...

-----------------------------------------

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

Wow! I had forgotten about that Brigade Models piece as a proxy for the Tarantula. I thought the same thing when I saw it.

Very nice!

Primarch,

Brigade's SF300-309 piece definitely makes a superb Tarantula.

I'm thinking that Brigade's SF300-506 Giap Grav scout vehicle
makes an excellent Landspeeder Tempest.

http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/NoFrames ... 0-506.html

- LAND SPEEDER TEMPEST
A Landspeeder with a one-man armoured cockpit, larger wings, missiles, and a souped-up engine.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
