I've been reading various threads how people base their IG heavy weapons and now my question is: how are you basing your IG Heavy Weapon stands?

- SM 1rst and 2nd Edition Codex Grey used square stands with a heavy weapon guy in the middle.

- Epic-40k (3rd Edition) used 2 new plastic Valhallan IG autocannons with two loaders and an extra figure on a rectangular stand.

- Epic-40k never did show plastic IG Catachan Heavy stands to my knowledge. I wonder if they'd set up the Catachan Bazooka guys the same way as Valhallan autocannons.

- E-A's rules are set up to let us use our old figures and are pretty flexible.

------------------------------

How are you basing Codex Grey Heavies?

How are you basing newer Catachan and Valhallan plastic Heavies?

------------------------------

I must confess that I've been using my Codex Grey IG for a LONG TIME and haven't yet built any of the newer plastic IG (was saving them for a rainy day) until yesterday. I started building some of the Catachans as Armageddon Hive Gangers and the Valhallans as Steel Legion.

So far, I'm basing IG Heavies on square stands with one gunner, a loader and an extra figure in the old artillary style (2 figures as gunners and the artillary piece in the center spot of the square stand).

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I am going to use some bases from GZG. They have irregular shaped based, with three or four places for troops, and they are textured. Pretty cool.

Old Guard/ SM1&2 =
1 Hvy Wpn, placed on square base in front left, right or middle hole. ?I have 3 dets. so each has the Hvy Wpn in the same place. ?

Vals/ E40K =
2 Hvy Wpns on long base with loader to left or right of gun. ?I could be wrong, but I just looked, that "Bazooka" - Missile Launcher is a Val with winter hat and long Great Coat? ?

So all my Cats are Light/ Tactical stands. Except 4 stands which I put a GZG fig, that looks like a Cat, and those are my Gaunts Ghost det. and are Hvy Wpns. ?

Back to Vals, I have 2 dets, one is Ldr-H/W-Ldr-H/W-Ldr, and the other is : H/W-Ldr-Bazooka-Ldr-H/W.

My Val Tactical det. has 4 troops + 1 Bazooka. That's the way I do it, and I feel it delineates Tac units from Hvy Wpns and dets from each other .... :D

Japanese Corp. Merc troop, he has a bandana wrapped around his head and appears to be carrying a heavy weapon.

Those GZG troops are intriguing, there are a dozen or so types and if G/W does not come up with some new Infantry, that I like, I'll paint them up and use them for PDF, Stormtroops etc. ?

I'll also send you a site that has them all painted and based ... very cool... ?

Hi!

I also base them like Legion4 does, one heavy weapon mondel and 4 tactical IG old codex grey. I usually put the heavy weapon in the middle whole.

As for the newer ones, I will place one of those large heavy weapons with one or two additional figures and leave them at that.

GZG, pan african troops make excellent PDF or militia style IG troops as well.

I'm going to base my Epic40k style ones with an auto cannon and loader on the outer edges and a missile launcher in the middle. I guess I could always swap them around, add some variety.

Cheers

Chris

Posted this somewhere else.

DIAGONAL square base, 2 autocannons at the front, 2 loaders 'flanking, and every 4th stand, has a comms trooper.

Looks the business and the 'diagonal' lets everyone notice them on the table!

Have we actually seen any photo teasers of the new E-A heavy weapon stands?

I remember hearing that they'll probably be on a round base with sandbags molded on.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Yes Maksim,

Jervis stated that somewhere. I remember that because I really did not like the idea and commented on it here on the Forum.

Who knows if that concept was scrapped with the plastic sprues being back on the menu?! ???? ?

The only pics I've seen for E-A is the Rhino MKIIc, Chaos Dreads, Landspeeders and Chaos Bikes. Did I miss anything? ?

I don't think they are trying to keep it a secret. They probably have not finalized a lot of the models. E-A's release is still 6-7 months off and a lot can change in that time.

I really can't wait until they give us the preview shot of the SupaStompa even though its' current stats don't really justify its' use. I'm sure that Jimbo agrees with me.

I'm hoping to assemble some of my odd proxy infantry tonight.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I'd love to see pics of some of the new E-A models ... but like a lot of the E-A "experiment", we will be kept in the dark until the last moment ... if we're lucky !!!

Hi guys,

I have been giving the whole cost of GW minis some thought but I realized the other day how confusing GW's prices are.

When it comes right down to it, plastic is freakin cheap as hell, and sometimes the packaging can cost more that the contents (take food for example). ?Another cost increase is that these are manufactured and packaged in the US and UK, and not Taiwan or something. ?That alone can be a huge factor.

Then I realized something when I was thinking about buying Warhammer Fantasy. ?I am NOT paying full price, so I was hunting around for a deal, I was checking on what came in the box, and was kind of satisfied with the minis I was going to get.

I also checked into how I could expand on the Orcs and Empire armies, and couldn't believe it, although I should have expected it, when I found the Empire Regiments box set game with 8 hand gunners and 8 spearmen, WHEN YOU NEED AT LEAST 10 TO FORM THEIR OWN REGIMENTS! Wow, that's great.

Anyway, if you look at the contents in the Warhammer Fantasy set and break down what it would cost to get the contents individually, it is amazing:

Rulebook (At least $30 by itself)
Empire General (At least $10)
Two Empire Regiments (16 Handgunners, 16 Spearmen - $50 total)
Cannon ($20)
Ork Warboss (At least $10)
Ork Chariot ($25)
Ork Arrer Boys (At least $30)
Ork Boyz ($30)

Add a few more bucks for a box, templates, dice, terrain, and measuring sticks- actually I'll leave that out, so the total comes to about $205 USD. GW sells the Warhammer box set for $75.

GW DOES NOT GIVE OUT GREAT PRICE DEALS. ?As a matter of fact, a new army deal is simply the box set plus the army book, with no percentage off for getting everything bundled.

Now, is GW bending itself over and taking it in the ass just to get us into the hobby, or are they making a profit off of the box set as well? I can't imagine that there isn't some profit off of the sale of the box set, as it would really be stupid not to do that. ?Even if it were a small profit, it doesn't seem like GW to give great discounts.

So that leaves me to believe that GW poorly manages costs of operating, individual box sets are extremely expensive to produce, and maybe they are selling the main box set as a way to promote the sale of other items (expecting that you will buy a lot more), or they are just screwing us.

I mean, are 16 plastic Dark Eldar Warriors really worth $30? ?????? NO. ?So I buy them 20 of them for $11 on ebay. :p

That is my take on it.

Hi!

In my view the biggest "beef" I have with GW's pricing schemes is that sometimes prices are "game" related instead of the actual amount of raw resources or sculpting work involved in the miniatures you get in a blister.

For example, I remeber that a blister of 4 SM attack bikes cost the same as, say, a blister of 3 metal falcons. When you could probably melt the 4 attack bikes and make ONE metal falcon. Absurd.

When I do buy retail (almost never), I never mind the price as long as the "weight" of the product seems comensurate. I remember Dream Pod9's line of minis when they were the larger scale and I bought several of their real large heavy robots for use as Slann titans. They cost around 30-35 bucks, but those things are so damn big and heavy you could actually kill somebody with them. I my view worth every penny.

If I can get that same value from GW, I would not mind thier prices. Their plastics are, however, ridiculously priced, Viod is releasing 50 figures for 50 bucks and the warzone boxed set when it was out gave you EIGHTY figs, the rules and extras for 70 dollars. The quality is about the same (regardless of what GW seems to beleive regarding their quality), so they are indeed too pricy.

All this as it pertains to epic, will be an interesting thing to see, since, they are offering redone plastics for infantry, but we need to see what the price will be. If they offer sprues at 10 dollars like they did during the epic40k fiasco, then they do epic gamers no favors. If they can maintain them for 3.50 or less, then they are in business.
