I've started journalling my newest painting effort, based on ToEG. ?I'll be posting updates to my blog page and images to my galley. ?I'll occasionally post to this thread as well, to point out significant progress.

I'd like to thank Firestorm40K for describing his own IG efforts as part of his Big Paint thread, which inspire me to post my own painting journal.

Today, I painted up two more stands to test different paint schemes.  Now, in addition to ther first stand with grey pants, shirts, and helmets with burnt umber flakjackets and silver rifles, I have a second stand with charcoal pants, brown shirts, black flakjackets, grey helments and charcoal and grey rifles, and a third stand with brown pants, grey shirts, charcoal flacjackets, and helmets and rifles that are black with red details.  Please see the pictures below.

I was having trouble deciding which paint scheme to go with.  The grey fatigues with umber flakjackets and silver guns seemes the most "codex" to me, but that also makes it the most plain and least individualistic.  The red details on the guns and helmets really pop out, and the effect is really close to the image on the back cover of the E40K Battles Book (which I was going for), but it's a little cartoony (which is a flaw for many of the examples in the E40K books).  The charcoal pants and brown shirts are the closest to looking like real clothing, IMHO, but I was worried that they would be too dark.

I showed them all to my wife (who has a much better eye for design than I do), and I've made my choice.  I'll start painting up the rest of the company tomorrow, and see how far along I get.  I'm going to keep my selection a secret for now.  I'd like to hear your opinions on the three schemes.

What do you all think?  Which of the three do you prefer?  Have you any advice or suggestions?

P.S. this post is almost a carbon copy of my most recent blog.  Don't bother checking my home page today.

From purely gaming POV I'd say the latter scheme looks better in a gaming table. Of course it also is the more laborious of the two.

I like the second scheme better, too. I agree with Mojarn that it would stand out better on a gaming to able than the first scheme.

Just checking, but by "second scheme", you mean charcoal pants, brown shirts, black flakjackets, grey helments and charcoal and grey rifles, right?  It's the one in the middle of the second picture.  Congradulations!  You picked the same scheme my wife and I chose!

I hereby award you both Attaboys!

I've already packed all my troops away, so I'll post pictures later this week (I may not get to it tomorrow, so I won't commit to it).

You are very, very welcome, Suvarov!  :D  I feel very honoured that I've been able to inspire other members of this forum.

It's good to have a thread like this to kkep yor motivation going for a big job like painting loads of IG infantry - so good luck!

Anyway, re; the painting - I prefer the second colour scheme - the colours seem to go together better than the first.

Keep 'em coming!

Hi!

I agree, the second scheme is more pleasing to the eye.

With your endorsement, Primarch, I'm even more pleased that I chose that scheme.

Here's tonight's picture showing my progress so far.  I apologize for it being so blurry, especially the Company Commander.  I'll take better pictures after I paint the helmets and drybrush on some highlights.

May I introduce Delta Company, Battleforce Floyd!  Yes, I managed to complete the Infantry Company this weekend (thank you three day weekends!).  As promised, I have better closeups of the Commander.  I also took the opportunity to submit the formation to EpiComp06 BattleForce category.  I don't really have any expectations of winning, but it's fun just to compete.  Oh, and I get some minor bragging rights for making the first post to the competition. :D
