Skimmers as transports

Quick questions.
Is it correct that transports, which are skimmers, can't leave their troops when they have unloaded them, ie they need to stay in coherency.
Let's say Imperial Guard valkyries unload their stromtroopers. They still need to stay with them in coherency correct? Or are they treated as a seperate unit now?
Only reason I ask is because it seems a bit unlogical, as it would often put the valkyries in a position where they are vulnerable, but I haven't find anything in the rules that says otherwise.

All units in a formation have to stay in coherency, so yes, that means your Stormtroopers and Valks (you do get a little bit more room thanks to Scout on everything though).

You could house-rule the transports as a separate formation and use the WE transport rules though. That would be pretty seamless.

If you end of going down the separate formation route, I'd tack on +25-50 points on the Valks.

Yeah normally non-WE transports are part of the formation but this can be altered in any list + unit (done via the notes on a named variant unit). I wouldn't see this as somehow game-breaking.

I'd have 0 issues with you breaking an air mobile formation like that into 2 formations with the +50points (generally a naked formation is +25 but with the added utility of skimmer and scout, that formation is far more valuable than typical).

Ultimately the purpose of the game is to have fun and if doing that enhances your gaming, more power to you

Awesome. Thanks for the help.
Now I actually have another question, about transports and dismounting.
When dismounting, you can place your infantry up to 5cm away, and they can't move any further, correct? Say a chimera moves 25, dismounting a INF unit 5cm away, and then the INF moves it's 15cm... That would be illegal right?

Is it the same when doing an engangement action? Reason why I ask is because we have discussed whenever you can put in assault marines into a space marine thunderhawk and have them go close combat when making an air assault, and... that's hard to do if they only are allowed to move 5 cm away form the thunderhawk.
I also imagine it can be hard to place 10 infantry units around a gorgon, but I haven't tried :D

That Chimera example would be legal if you were doubling, and the infantry started the activation in the Chimera.

It'll depend on your infantry base size and which THawk model you have, but ya it can be hard sometimes. That means you have to plan your assault location well.

4.2.5 Transporting Ground Units
