Hi!

I been looking at this game very closely for a long time. I think its real cool!

What did you think of the models and game play?

Gameplay isn't anything revolutionary. It's simple, and it works. I have only played in the demos at Gencon, and they weren't using any of the more advanced stuff from the rulebooks. Uses D10, rolling to hit against the target's defense, then rolling against the target's armor (using the firepower of the weapon). Can pre-measure. Two movement phases (move, attack, then move again). Tripods are hard to kill (must roll on damage table). Human tanks are easy(-ier) to kill, but there are more tanks than tripods. Humans may break and run; Martians don't flee.

Those are basically the basic rules, minus a few other things. Advance rules add command/control, stealth for infantry, modified initiative every round...other stuff.

The models are nice. Strong, well-made plastics from good molds, aside from a few bits. I just (nearly) finished up a Tripod today. It's a solid model. Haven't dealt with the metals or resins yet, but they look good so far. Not too happy with my paint job, but it suffices.

I'm into this game for the setting and the models. Gameplay is secondary to me at this time. Martians are the original xenos--and I love anything old-school.

Hi!

Sounds cool!

I'm in the same boat as you, as I like the game purely on the setting and models. It just has a certain something that really appeals to me.

Thanks for the response!

I have a Tripod painted up, will get some pics of it as soon as I can. I keep fiddling with the details and will probably ruin it before too long. I need to just let it be, I'm not shooting for museum quality, just good enough for the table top.

First Tripod done. Will start in earnest next week. Three 'pods, then three tanks, and alternate from there until I have enough done to run a demo at the local Game Preserve. Sometime next month maybe.

Oh, and need terrain as well.

I am very interested in this game. I have read a lot of battle reports and looked at the models.

It seems fun and reasonable.

Go there and look around--good stuff! I've put it on a temporary back burner for a couple of weeks but plan on finishing up my US tank force then.

I just picked up the Intro box, Scout Tripods, Doughboy Squad, and Field Guns for the US.

I look forward to busting them out, paniting them up, and playing a few games.

I played a game recently and my humans finally won, though we discovered that traps are nigh-useless as the rules are written.

But, I do have a bit of a hobby complaint to make:

The metal kits (American, at least) are as bad as the plastic kits are as good. Terrible, terrible molds in most cases, horrible flash, poorly-planned out design, loose-fitting parts...

I have some 3 MGs, 6 Infantry, and 6 Motorcycles, and 2 A-T Guns (which are absolute horrid). If I can help it, that will be the last of the metals I get for the US. My plan is to get more tanks. No more infantry, unless it can't be helped.

But the game itself is still solid, if a bit unimaginative. And the plastic kits are still really good (at least the ones I have). I haven't deal with their resin yet, so I'll give an opinion on that someday too.

Ahhhh......

I just found this:

Proxying stuff like that should solve my quality issues nicely.
