For those of you who attended either of the past two events in PA, you have heard the rumors...Joe and I are going to to run the Campaign weekend. On the ride home Sunday we hashed out the beginning details.
We want to run a true campaign weekend over a 2 or 2 1/2 day weekend. We are targeting a weekend in May 2012 and are looking to run the event in the Newark, Delaware area. It's centralized, has lodging close and has a club location that can accommodate our needs. The event will include some resource management, a "living" battle line that will ebb and flow, communication during game to a centralized command is utilized, etc. Best to think of the game as a massive table, say 3 tables x 3 tables where breaking through lines via marching, teleporting and dropping on any table is encouraged. Armies brought need to be thought of as resources in a resource pool and assigned where needed, offering a "real time" response to players actions on the tables. Each round or so, messages will be sent to a supreme commander for reinforcements, status of your part of the line, etc. These messages will be influenced/garbled by in game happenings and objectives lost or held.
There's more, but for now we are looking for players and what you can bring.
Some of the rules we are not bending on are:
1. This event will be based on the Third War of Armageddon. Therefore Orks and Imperial forces only (marines, imperial guard, sisters). Sorry, but the theme is important. Hopefully this will encourage people to dust off some minis or start a new project with some focus. We would like for players to keep to the actual armies present in the storyline, BUT it is not required. Marines are marines and Orks are Orks. For an idea of who/what showed up and in what quantities see the Epic Armageddon Rulebook page xxx or this website:
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Third_W ... Armageddon 2. ALL models must be painted and based - no exceptions. We are planning to create all the terrain to be themed. We want this event to be something you will remember, will talk about for years and will want to participate in again. Non painted stuff ruins the experience.
3. This is a FUN experience! This is NOT a competitive event! Though smack talk is welcome :-) I don't think any of the Ork players, Bill or Dave could do without it!
Up for discussion/fact finding for now:
1. September/October 2012 - its 9 months out and give plenty of time to organize. A 3 day weekend would make a better experience.
2. Who wants in? What side do you want to play on?
3. How many points of Orks/Imperial do you have painted or can you have painted by May, not including titan class or air support?
4. How many points of Air Power or Titans do you have painted/can you have painted? We have something in mind here....
5. In order to pull this off the way we want, being comfortable with allowing use of / using other peoples models would help (a detachment here or there in support as needed). You will play your army, but as things die, they may get recycled as drop support, fill holes in lines, etc.
6. Team captains would be a HUGE help in herding the cats...err...players and keeping them on task. Joe and I will have our hands full with terrain, rules, special stuff, and some house armies to push the event over the top in terms of quality. Any volunteers for the Ork side or Imperial side?
7. Would anyone be interested in not actually playing epic, but actually being the Supreme Commander in his bunker processing data and plotting and planning your sides resources on a strategic level? Your battle plan could make/break your side winning or losing. think of the Supreme Commander playing more a complex board game.
If you can think of anyone who would be interested but was not emailed, please forward this to them. Let us know what you think.
We really look forward to hosting an event of "epic" proportions (excuse the pun, couldn't be helped) not like anything you have played in.
