Inspired by CELS' IG army for Epic Armageddon I've finally decided to start with Epic as well, I'm no longer in the mood of buying tons of new stuff from GW though, so I decided to basically recycle the various bits and bites Ive got laying around to construct several Ork Gargants.
I've always been bugged with the design of the Ork Gargants, especially their moving mechanisms, only the Mega Gargant seemed cool to me for the fact that it has tracks instead of that very IMHO stupid way of walking the other versions have.
At the Anargo Sector Project forums CELS made some designs of how he envisioned a possible variation of the Ork Gargants, as you can see here and here. Cool as they might look I'm getting too many Battletech flashbacks which just doesn't feel right for the Orks. For this reason I've been looking at the design of the Ork Gargant myself and I've been contemplating about it for quite some time now. The first concepts were very spider like, but the legs were too high up, making the Gargant look too fragile. Inspired by the Chaos Defiler I've been making some sketches of this Ork engine of war.
Here is the basic idea of what I want to model:
Im planning on making the main body from cardboard/plasticboard, depending on what I can get my hands on, the legs will be made from small parts of wood and the feet will be made from screws like these. Weapons will be made from leftover bits from the old Mega Gargant kit I got and various 40k weapons and other pieces Ive got laying around.
So what do you guys think? Any comments/critique/suggestions? I would love some ideas for weaponsystems made from 40k bits and bites. Do realise that most of my stuff is pretty old, meaning the newest stuff Ive got is 3rd edition era stuff.

Are you planning on giving it four feet?

Yes. There will be three Gargants (either Great or Mega Gargants), the first one will have the moving system like the one I drew here. The other two will be like this one (Lower drawing) and that one if I manage to get my hands on enough materials to make that many legs.

I think a four-legged Gargant might look cool.

Good idea about the gargant, I actually have a four legged version I was working on, back when I did my two scratchbuilt gargants. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your progress.

Do you still have pictures of that 4 legged one?
By the way, Im trying to create the Gargants' weapons from various bits (mostly 40k stuff and random stuff) but I dont know what all the Gargants' weapons look like. Any help would be great here.

I think a gorilla-looking Gargant might be interesting. They're essentially four-legged.

Gorilla? Hmm, havent thought of that yet, so it would be two smaller legs in the back and two large frontal arms which the Gargant also needs to walk on.

Started working on the first Mega Gargant, I realised that mine will be a little bit larger than the original models, from left to right its 12cm (including legs, and 6.5cm body), from back to front its 6cm. I think it will be around 10 cm tall. I guess its going to be a little bit bigger than most Imperial Titans, but then again its a Mega Gargants...It should be challenging the Imperator Titan in size!
Realizing this, I think I will be forced to build some of the weapons from scratch as well and add little existing bits to add some detail to them.
Pictures will be coming soon!
I started a similar thread on Warseer, where you might find more ideas and suggestions: link

Can't wait to see this abomination so that it can be reduced into scap
I find 40K weapons and plastic rods very useful for epic titan weapons.
Though if you want that really meag chopper for your mega gargant then I suggest=][= scale weapons. they are nice and big.

Remember though that Gargants are supposed to be giant effigies of the Ork Gods.....so 4 legged contraptions probably dont fit the mold/fluff that well

I think a 4 legged monster with big guns would be more fitting that some giant piece of scrapmetal that moves like one of those wind up toys.
So far the legs are very insect like and will probably remain like that, but the post isnt that static, he will be more hunched forward with all its guns aimed right at the enemy!

"Gods" are generally modelled on the supplicant, so I figure M&G are bipedal. Steam gargants, Mega Gargants and the new Stompers all do away with the need for 2 stumpy feet.......and "giant piece of scrapmetal that moves like a windup toy" sounds like a spot on description for an Ork Gargant.

Fourlegged effigy of Mork (or possibly Gork) sounds heresy. *very wide grin*
Chaos Orks? You know, Gargant Heresy that torn galazy apart when brother fought brother. Wait, that was just ork midday matine? with ?participating spectators...
I am a traditionalist so no fourlegged spider gargants for me.
EDIT: Why not put some more spikes to it and call it Chaos Titan?

I really like the ideas here- the traditional motion of gargants is something that has always bugged me too. I particularly like the first idea you drew up.
One thought I had about some of the designs though: Ever seen the Futurama episode with the Decapodian Mobile Oppression Palace? Convergent evolution methinks
