I was trying to impress a French bird I recently became aquainted with - thought perhaps Google translater could save me having to get out the old French books. With good faith, I entered the following text:

Hello girl, Good seeing you recently, look forward to seeing you again sometime. Need my dance buddy back! Hope your journey was a good one and I will speak to you soon.
Tom.


I received the following French translation back:

Bonjour la fille, bonne vous voyant r?cemment, attendent avec int?r?t ?de vous revoir autrefois. ?Ayez besoin de mon dos de copain de danse! ?Esp?rez que votre voyage ?tait bon et je vous parlerai bient?t. ?
Tom.


I was about to send it when I thought I would translate it back to English and see what it said:

Hello the girl, good seeing you recently, wait with interest to re-examine you formerly. Need my back of buddy of dance! Hope that your voyage was good and I will speak to you soon. ?
Tom.

Now - what I said before was fairly slick, this text however is guaranteed to get me a slap. Plan B is now in action, find a GCSE French book! :S.

That is incredible! It has not translated your words, but by some strange and psychic link, it has translated your thoughts and intentions!  :D

Online translators are always good for some fun, but no good for translating more than three words.

I'm with Ian. The translation seems just like you to me! :D

Seriously, the best way to learn a language is to actually do it, read books, take classes, try it out with natives, etc.

And I tell you this as a guy who speaks quite a few languages.

I'm sure that your French "bird" would be happy to give you a few lessons...

Whether you pass or not is an ENTIRELY different question... }:)

She is in another country at the mo so I am sticking with my current flame till she gets back, and I tried getting her drunk but I don't know if all French girls are like this but she had a head like a rock. I failed to get her drunk! :{

Be afraid... be very afraid... :o ?

My little 25 year old gym friend with long raven black hair, speaks French and her Mother was born in Marseilles. She has caused me more consternation over the past few months than a North Korean patrol, twisted parachute lines, land mines, etc., etc.! ?

Run before you come under her Slanneshi influences... for me it's too late... there is no escape... :ghostface: :{

My experience with the Altavista translation tools from a few years back is worth re-telling.

I sent an Italian friend a message indicating that I would be coming to see her but I needed to ask my boss for some time off.

The translation basically said that I needed to ask my knob for permission before I could come and see her.

She laughed so much that she nearly choked.

Free Translations is a good website. I never had a problem with it, though I did get a D at GCSE French...
