I have received my order from Vanguard miniatures to start my Paramar air cav drop regiment / Elysian drop regiment.

I ordered enough for 10 drop companies. 1 command company, 2 mortar companies, 14 heavy weapons sprues, 5 drop sentinel squadrons, 10 sky talons, 1 storm trooper company, 1 space ship and the ground crew and pilots packs. I also got the new eloi infantry, a tempest and a zephyr pack.

I have used up all my reserve strip bases, and just placed an order for another 150 in case I get more stuff.

When John gets more of the proxies for Valkyries and Vultures and Talos/ Talos Venator, I will be buying them in decent quantities, in a future order plus some more bases. some stuff for BFG. I will enbdeavour to get some lightnings (from another company), some of hs marauder prioxies.

The I will have to wait for him to make the grey ghost ghillie suit minis, and then the sabres. At that time I will get 6 conqueror proxies, 3 chimera proxies and some allied guard. It will take a lot of time, but the regiment will finally be built, perhaps in a year or so.

I have attached photos of the start of the collection.

OMG what have I done to myself I will have no spare time for gaming.

I plan to paint them in a roughly Tan/Brown/Dark Brown camoflauge with dark dirt bases with light tundra grass and dark peet on the bases. I hope they will look good when finished. I just have to work out a way of differentiating between the drop companies.

That is a hell of a lot of work you have sat there I wish you luck.

And many thanks for supporting vanguard minis with your many orders.

Cheers John

I have started to put them together

Image

Regimental HQ company and 9 drop companies

Image

3 mortar companies, strom trooper company, grey ghost company, 12 cyclops, 6 heavy weapons/fire support sections, 9 hardened veteran units and 12 units of landing drop troops, and 2 packs of ground support troops, pilots and flight officers.

Image

objectives, 5 drop sentinel squadrons, a scout sentinel squadron, and a drop support sentinel squadron.

My current order will give me 2 more formations of sentinels with my current spares. One of fire support sentinels, and another drop sentinel squadron. The 150 bases will help me recoup from the previous order, and the political officers had been used up building this army. The Spartas are going to be used for my sisters army.

Hopefully when the valkyrie and vulture proxys and the taurus and taurus venators arrive, I will make the 3rd order to complete the army and may have to get more bases and some 20x20 bases for the sentinels as well.

I have a ways to go before complete, but it wills out with hard work and determination, and a lot of painting.

I hope to see the VTOL's back in stock within a month but of course I cannot guarantee that.

The new buggies will see release later this month or early next at the latest, elements are already coming in for those.

How are you denoting the hardened veterans from the regular drop troopers?

I found that if I reworked the contents of the current drop company packs of 40, then I could over the whole 12 packs plus 4 specialist packs was able to create 9 units of Hardened Veterans, 12 units of heavy weapons (6 sections of 2 units), 4 mortar companies with the 4th coy just 2 units short or its 8 units, a RHQ, and 10 drop companies (using the female political officers for commissars) get a spotter, a commander, and a commissar for each, plus 12 cyclops.

All I really need to finish the army now is proxys for the Vulture - need 8 of them, the Valkyrie, - need 14 of them, tauros - need 12 of them, tauros venator - need 24 of them, Grey Ghost (Ghillie suit scout snipers - need 60 of them, 6 Leman Russ Conqueror proxys, 60 allied guard, 3 chimera proxys, 6 to 12 sabre AA weapons platforms.

I know it will be a long time before some of them are gong to be available.

The rest of what I need I can get elsewhere like Marauder, Maraduer Destroyer, and more Lightnings.

interesting way to model your little cyclops demo vehicles.

Those new AIv2 lightnings are very very nice. enough so I'd actually ditch the older forumware ones and use them to fund additional plastics.

The new ones are so expensive individually, and even the new game is expensive. Damn GW setting their prices geater than the conversion rate. So much cheaper to buy overseas, and import than buy here in Australia.

I can get the old forum ware lightning proxies for a cheap enough price from a couple 3rd party sources who make a really nice substitue. AU$9.00 each in resin, or AU$11.00 each in pewter.

I looked at the cost of the cheaper plastic ones. AU$74.00 for 4 lightning strike fighters and 2 lightning fighters. $AU72.00 for 2 Marauder Destroyers or 2 Marauder Bombers. AU150.00 for the skies of fire box set. Compare that to the U.S.A. prices and to the English ound, and Australia is pauing waaaaay to much.

I can get 7 or 8 local lightnings for the cost of the 6 from GW, or for the marauder bombers/destroyers I will be able to get locally 3 nearly 4 for the cost of the the 2 GW ones. Althought the GW ones allow some different weapon options, I can get metallic durable ones for a cheaper cost. I know they are so much cheaper in the USA at US$42.00 for 6 lightnings, but I can not keep buying them at 72.00 for 6.

While in quarantine here in Mackay, because I have come from a hotspot area to see my terminally ill father, I have had a chance to test paint a mini for the PAramar/Elysian drop regiment. I chose the Hardened veterans, and the mini seemed to turn out quite well. It just needs some moss and some very short tufts of light grass on the base to sit on top of the mud/dark earth.

Image

Image

Close up, it looks like they are wearing auscam uniforms with a brow/darker brown knee, elbow, shoulder and chest plating. The helmets and boots are a lighter almost leather brown, and the helmet has a light green slit for the night vision screen in the helmet. I chose to make the weapon a brown and black weapon to keep in with the colour scheme, and sort of parallels the use of synthetic polymers and plastics you see with the steyer rifle.

They should look really good once I paint a force and finish basing them. however that one base too about 2 to 3 hours to painbt (mainy as I was trying to work out what I wanted done), but I kept photographng it, and fing up the mistakes I could see.

At that pace the army wil take a hell of a long time, but should be brilliant even under a magnifying glass.

Painted a trooper while trying to copy a lot of doctor who classic episodes and some modern episodes to a portable HDD for dad to watch. Also copied Sharpes Rifles.

The new base of troopers I painted is a regular drop trooper base. It looks very nice, and if the 2 of them together is something to go by, the army will not only stand out, but look impressive in the table.

Image

Image

Same painting scheme, as the veterans. I have put gold/brass paint on the top of the drop chute to easily identify - designate their company on the table.

Gold means the Regimental Command Company.

Have finished the basing and I think that it works. It looks like the units are moving through a slightly muddy area with reeds and grass growing up in clumps.

Pics below:

Maybe the bases need some small dark wet areas behind where the footptints should have been left by the individual troopers. I made the tankette tracks by painting a darker brown behind it in the groovess that I made in the Stirland Mud I added to the base.

I still have 8 units to complete the formation, including a Sabre A gun which I still have to get and base.
