Mine are done. Maybe one weekend we can get a game in

I know next weekend is Labor Day, but I could look into an afternoon at Six Feet Under; could bring 6mm or 8mm stuff, easily. September I have a weekend trip 9/6-9/8, and you’ve got Worlds, but other than that, should hopefully be wide open.

And since it’s bad form to post to my own painting thread without an image, I finally finished my battlefield assets yesterday, along with a few more Reaver weapons.

Image

Had to go all “V2 rocket” on the Warp Missile’s nosecone, because. With that, I have 2 of every weapons except the missile rack and CCWs painted up for these guys.

Image

Working on a Sons of Horus recon team and a pair of lascannon fire support teams for the Forward Observers and Titan Hunter Infantry battlefield assets, respectively (Doom of Molech book).

And lo, Kingslayer walks!

OK, I thought the other Warlord was a bear to paint; give me Suturvora's black panels and flames any day. Still, the checkers and camo have been fun to paint, and I've gotten a lot better at shading while working on these titans, so my plan has paid off ;)

And yes, the Lucius-pattern head is 3D-printed; I have a local buddy who was willing to crank one out for me. It's a little large for the model, but I plan to use it to represent a command head when designating the Princeps Seniores in command of multiple maniples, should my games get that big.

Minor update, and something not Chaos for a change.

I managed to round out the arsenal for my Warlord(s):

And had a relatively light afternoon, so I took a shot at testing a potential paint scheme for Legio Fortidus:

I mean, at some point I need an OpFor for Tempestus so I can run demo games, right?

It’s hard to photograph the metallics, but the armor plate is leadbelcher > nuln oil > ironbreaker > stomhost silver, then hit with a layer of Turbo Dork’s (quit snickering, Dave) “Life on Mars”, then washed with carroburg crimson.

Weathered bronze is just balthasar gold > agrax > nuln > edge highlight of sycorax bronze, although I probably need to knock the nihilakh oxide down a little with nuln oil too.

Writing that down here mostly so that when I forget what the heck I did and come back to this in a few months I can piece the formula back together.

So I managed to finish another half dozen knights this week. I can finally start using Questoris instead of Acastus to bulk out a battleforce, too ;)

Image

Everybody's magnetized at the wrist for full weapon interchangeability, and I've got magnets in place to support missile pods eventually too.

Image

Image

I also decided to swap from white Eye of Horus decals on the Lord Scion tilt shields to black. It's less visible this way, but it's also less visually jarring (as there's no white paint anywhere else on the model).

Image

And since I'm showing off most of the Knights anyhow, here's the big group shot of everything I've painted for Malinax up to this point:

Image

Next I have a Reaver carapace vulcan megabolter and a pair of ersatz warlord carapace gatling blasters to paint. Then it'll be a mad scramble to paint my Warmaster Chaos in time for Fall In!

Knight missle pods are an elusive myth.

Short & quick update: I’m supposed to be painting 2000pts of Warmaster Chaos (cue internal voice going “relax man; you got this!”), but instead I knocked out four tokens for a trio of Adeptus Titanicus stratagems that are currently unrepresented -

Image

Scatterable Mines, Forward Observers (scouts in the middle), and Titan Hunter Infantry.

Image

In addition to testing potential Sons of Horus paint schemes for an eventual army (thanks, Karl, for the unvarnished critiques of a few of them), it was also an opportunity to test a theory about painting camo that would look like camo but not entirely blend into the basing.

Image

Since these are meant to be tokens and not gaming pieces for Epic, they’re all on 30mm rounds to match the size of the other Battlefield Assets (except for the mines marker; it’s larger to make it a little more obvious on the table, since you measure from the centerpoint anyhow).

So yeah, this is what I do when I have painting projects I should really be working on...

Finished a whole bunch of half-started projects at once.

I. AT18 - Legio Tempestus

Reaver carapace vulcan megabolter:

Image

Warlord arioch power claw (decided to go streamlined on this one; no vulcan):

Image

A test buy of Warlord carapace gatling blasters off eBay.

Image

Not terribly thrilled with these; the scaling on the mounts was off and required surgery, and while one printed well, I wouldn't have considered the other reasonable retail material. Still, it'll tide me over until FW finally releases the legitimate ones.

II. Epic - Legio Suturvora

No, I hadn't forgotten these guys in all of my 8mm painting! I bodged together a carapace landing pad replacement - I wanted an armored housing with a retractable dish and antennae, and put it together using pieces from a couple of the AT18 battlefield assets and some spare antennae I had lying around. If I'm fielding a dual quake Reaver it'll probably be my Legate as well, so I figure this'll serve double duty as a C4I node that way too.

Image

III. Epic - Iron Warriors

Finally, a few more dreadnoughts for my Iron Warriors. These had been sitting mostly finished for quite a while, so I just got them based and game-ready last night.

Image

This brings me up to 17 dreadnoughts, 4 siege dreadnoughts, and 1 supreme commander dreadnought. Now I need to come up with a 3000 point list where I can field them all (I mean, I could Dreadclaw 18 of them off a Cruiser...) ;)
