A question came up recently on one of the Facebook groups, and I'd like opinions from the people here.

The question was; "Can a troop moving do it over an ally base of lower or equal pinning class?"

My opinion, and the way I have always played (and seen it played), is that you cannot have any model pass through another model, even an allied one. Skimmers and Flyers ignore that, but cannot stop over an allied model.

I could possibly see allowing Infantry stands to pass through other Infantry stands, but that would be about it. Titans could possibly be allowed to move over lower pinning classes, so long as they do not end their move touching any other model. Allowing others to do this would mean that a Baneblade could move through a Land Raider, and that just defies logic to me.

My question here is twofold. 1) How do you play this? 2) Do you think that models should be allowed to move through allied models, and if so, with what limitations?

I've always played it in the same way as you. I didn't think that it was possible to move through allied models. Assuming that I'm correct, I see no need to change it.

That has always been the way we play it as well.

We are slightly more easy on this. When there is clearly enough space to move around friendly tropps we do not take much care if the total movement is done by moving around or over friendly units. We take it easy.
When the situaiton gets crowded or critical, like in complex H2H combats, we do not allow models to move over friendly units.

We've always played it kind of like the Palladium rules I guess. I'm saying Palladium since I don't think it's stated in the Gold rules, at least not that clear?
Meaning you can move through allied models of same pinning class or lower. We interpret it a bit as allied models would step a bit to the side and let you move through.

For our next game we will actually implement that Zone of Control rule and try that out :)

Not sure if it is correct but we always play it that infantry are capable of moving to one side to allow other infantry, tanks etc to come past (except in h2h, rules for moving units up to engage etc). We don’t allow vehicles or tanks to though, as it then makes moving vehicles through narrow defiles a more risky strategy as they can impede each other’s movement.

We should also try not to forget that while we give an order to the movement, it actually happens all at the same time! IMHO this is something that could allow friendly units to pass over each other because you can imagine that during the movement they can dodge a little to let the faster guy behind pass!
