yeah while it's not a good 'snapshot' of the current metagame, it does seem that most of the armies with a decent number of games played that also have significantly high win percentages are ground-pounding forces....

Black Legion - 42%
Squats - 46%
Necrons - 46%
thousand sons - 48%
Krieg - 54%

The two lists with air options that are also significantly above the 40% ratio are Speed Freaks at 51% and Ulthwe at 53%, I don't think successful Ulthwe lists tend to focus on the air game, often having fewer Vampires than BT lists

the one list that does stand out at 45% is dark angels, having been pretty successful with them myself I can say that they definitely work best as an air-heavy list, at least in my experience

Makes sense, aircraft can’t generally take objectives....objectives win games!

Hey I didn't say they were good, just numerous :)

And Richard, I was soooooo close to bringing yme loc. But still couldn't bring myself to do it again, they're just too annoying to design a list for. Kind of regret not bringing the alaitoc though. I mean, they would fail horribly but at least it's different. Ran out of time unfortunately.

Going to be an interesting update to the Race vs Race page

http://epic-uk.co.uk/ukepicachampionship/racevrace.php

Sisters should have a 100% win rate...whle also losing one game.

There was discussion about Sisters at the post-toury debrief in the pub.

Some (including me) think that Dominions are a bit too good, but on the whole the vast majority say it's too early to say - especially as two very good players took them and it is only now that opponents will go away and think about counters.

I still think that their lack of air assault unit (Valkyries don't count) means that they are not broken - just a really good list with maybe a bit of internal imbalance with Dominions a bit too attractive a choice.

It's just one of those lists where changes need to be carefully applied. Currently it has no
Air assaults
Planetfall
(Worthwhile) teleports
Barrage
Titan killer
Titans/Warengines
Indirect fire

About the only thing it does is rush a good number of well armoured, good firefight infantry forward and drive defenders out of cover.

Not saying the Dominions don't need looking at, but overall the list is already very limited in its options so it still needs to be good at the one thing it still has left! I remember during the playtest in NetEA that the Retributors got rebalanced and nerfed into being uncompetitive with the rest of the list.

I think there were a couple of contributing factors, both lists were played by experienced players (and in the case of David, someone who has playtested both the Net-EA and E-UK variants pretty extensively), they didn't hit any particularly rough matchups, and it sounds like neither player had particularly poor dice as well. Overall i preferred David's list, as i think it's more interesting given it uses more than 4 different units, and is stronger with the multiple missions, although i do find the unrestricted access to Covens to be a bit concerning, as is the ability to spam pretty decent and cheap fighters.

Playing into it with Dark Eldar was a bit of a nightmare, but i'd quite like to try the matchup again to see just how much of my horrendous first game was down to some really terrible dice, and how much of it was actually the strengths and weaknesses of the respective lists. Having ignore cover flamers coming out of your ears along with macro guns however was seriously problematic for an army that lacks much in the way of a decent armour save.

I would agree though that their playstyle is pretty linear on the whole, and 'Rhino Rush' is the name of the game really, although it is pretty effective when you can get 14 activations in an army without too much difficulty. Ignore cover in both shooting and firefight do make them pretty amazing against a lot of armies that rely on cover though.

Personally (perhaps somewhat ironically) i think a number of the weaker units need to be buffed so that it's not just a dominion and mission spam list, and i still think it's a shame they don't have any war engines (such as the pretty cool cathedrals).

Yeah, game 1 was a bit of an odd match up. One the one hand I had to face you, which is a pretty intimidating prospect. On the other there probably isn't anyone else in the UK who has used the Dark Eldar in more games (practice, tournament or otherwise) than me (maybe Matt actually?) so I knew what to do to deal with them.

Also turn 1 with 6 aicraft activations successfully killing 2 rhinos and doing nothing else was a pretty favourable to me. An About 30% activation failure rate in a mostly Init1+ army didn't hurt either...

Yeah, weaknesses of a list are kind of important as well?

Having played the Sisters I don't think there overpowered as it currently stands, even taking into the consideration the optimized lists that Dan and David took. In my game against Dave I made a few bad mistakes, had some poor dice in some assaults and narrowly lost 2-0. Pretty much... what you'd expect against a balanced list?

The suggestion to look at some of the sub-par units in the list sounds a good idea for more varied lists. With some even a small points reduction might make them more attractive (i.e Seraphim) and others where reworking them can be looked at. (Bringing the cool War Engines back into the list, in a way where players would want to take them.)

Think sisters are fine. From memory the pub conversation was mostly Rob saying he thought they were too good and everyone else disagreeing.

However, it did then spark an interesting conversation with Dan.
