The magnanid weapon looks a little like it's plonked down on top and not as integrated into the creature as I envisaged from how your describes your goal for the aesthetic, at least in the scaled down parts image. I think this is because it is a single piece of continuous chitin/bone. I wonder maybe if you could experiment with making the barrel 'emerge' from the body of the weapon to create a little visual separation?
I did a little snort when I saw the swam by the way - awesome.

Those bile mites (the ones at three to a base) could be the perfect bugs for a starship troopers games in 3mm. Imagine three hundred of them against a platoon of 35 mobile infantry (perhaps oddzial osmy vietnam GIs) or 20 power armoured infantry (perhaps vanguard novan elites).
