My wife was a bit unhappy having such short range on her Eldar infantry. While we have a few Dark Reapers, I noticed I also have some guardians with a long rifle of some kind on the shoulder.

Have you used those?

Would you just make a new profile, similar to Guardians but with 30cm like scouts? Or add heavy weapons, making them 45cm? But the latter would also make them 3 fp, which seems a lot.

I know that armies are supposed to have their limitations. But I'd like to give her a choice, and I have some models.

For simplicity, I'd like to just add Heavy Weapons. But because 3fp seems too much, I think I'll just make a new profile, with 1fp and Heavy Weapons.

I'll also paint a few more dreadnoughts and support weapons, maybe some scouts.

I believe they're Scatter Lasers. I've got a few spare if you're interested. Were there no rules for Epic Heavy Weapon Platforms in E40k? They had models for them.

Epic 40k Eldar Guardians are supposed to be armed with Shuriken Catapults, which is why their firepower is so high. You can actually see it on the model:

If you'd like to give them lasguns, use the old SM Guardian models (they are pretty cheap online) and give them 30cm range and Firepower 1 (they should stay 8 points, in my opinion).

I have some of all of them. But Epic 40K ruled the scatter lasers out. So I'm asking about rules.

So maybe I could add:
Guardians w/lasguns: 1 FP, 30cm
Guardians w/scatter lasers: Guardians w/lasguns + Heavy Weapons

Hi!

In the old sprues there were guardians with heavy weapons. I forget if first edition actually had them as a unit for games. They did not exist under second edition.

Well, Guardians didn't have heavy weapons (aside from the grav platforms) in Warhammer 40k at the time, so it is a little anachronistic, but other than that it sounds good!

Could be handy for black guardians if you wanted to distinguish the stands a bit

For me, it is all about the miniatures and fun. I have miniatures asking to be used, and I think my wife would like some troops with better range. So I don't mind it being anachronistic. I don't follow 40K anyway.

What are black guardians?

Ulthwé Craftworld Guardians which unlike most other craftworlds are not a militia but a standing army and more trained and equipped than what is typical of Eldar.

Yeah, except no set of rules attempts to represent this in any reasonable fashion. Especially annoying because I love the idea of the black guardians. Such a cool concept, so underwhelming in reality.

Well in 3rd edition almost nothing cool had the chance to be worked out having support for 6 months at tops and hence why this thread was started by the OP. :D

Yeah in Codex Titanicus each stand came with a lascannon, which made them amazing as anti-tank units (anti infantry - not so much). Back then, well, all though AT/SM1, only two forms of Eldar infantry existed: Avenging Warriors and Swooping Hawks. The Avenging Warriors mostly resemble the Guardians of today.

Back in the early days of 40k, the Eldar carried their heavy weapons over the shoulder as every other race did, until they came up with that grav platform. By the time rules were made for the sprue that had those minis, that model was long obsolete.

I guess one thing you could do is give the Eldar Guardians an anti-tank upgrade if you want to go old school with them. Or just give them the Heavy Weapons upgrade, but that to means a variety of heavy weapons for multi-purposed, and Lascannons are more anti-vehicle.

I considered just using them for support weapons, but I've got lots of those, too, and I wasn't really looking for something so special purpose. So I'll either mix Guardian 3 above with Guardian 2 and call the whole thing 30cm 1fp, or use Guardian 3 for that and have some with Guardian 2 mixed in with +Heavy Weapons. I'll leave the first at 8 points, and look at how Heavy Weapons usually affect points for the other.
