Overall both sides inflicted largely similar losses upon one another but the Squats failed to break any enemy formations while IG broke several Squat formations and took a massive 5 objectives to the Squats 2! (1 objective remains uncaptured)

Turn 1:

IG: 38
Squats: 10

At the start of Turn 2 the Squats are obsessed with the Marauders and a few units pick off two of the deadly fliers, losing a few Mole Mortars in return.

The danger that the Squats fail to recognise are the Vindicators on the right flank! They advance through razorwire barricades and find themselves in range of the Goliath Mega-Cannon! The artillery emplacements that protect the cannon are absolutely useless in the face of Vindicator's destructive cannon! 3 shots, 3 hits and 3 cannon destroyed! The loss of an entire company of Goliaths is a crippling blow for the Squats...

The IG finally manage to strip the Void Shields from one Cyclops. Before it starts suffering serious damage it opens fire on a building full of enemy troops! The Hellfury Cannon lives up to its name and the IG troops are vaporised in a huge explosion!

A Mole surfaces and Warrior troops pour out opening fire on Hydras. The AA tanks are annihilated!

In the final action of the battle the Cyclops and Leviathan go head to head but neither is able to neutralise the other. The Cyclops does manage to wipe out the Destroyer tanks. Could it possibly be enough to tie the game?

No way! The Squats inability to capture objectives costs them dearly! They hold on to 1 but the IG have an incredible 7!

On the left flank there is little left, mainly the Leviathan and Collosus.

The Praetorians in the centre are still in play but one lost its Hellfury Cannon and was fortunate not to be destroyed. The IG are looking frail with Baneblades on the brink while the Leman Russ have broken as has a Tactical Company.

On the right the Grand Battery is largely intact but the rest of the flank belongs to the IG!

Post-battle reflections:
The biggest problem I had as the Squats was my inability to capture objectives. Strip out the points for objectives and things would look a lot closer: IG: 28, Squats 30. That's about as positive as I can get.

I wouldn't really change my strategy of having deliberately forfeiting the left flank. In terms of quantity the IG always have a lot more bang for buck against the expensive heavy hitters of the Squats so I prefer to concentrate my forces. If I could have held 3 objectives then the game would have went for a further turn and potentially I may have been able to to scrape a draw. We'll never know!

The Grand Battery was a complete waste of points. I took it to be flavoursome but in reality they were as useless as I've found them previously. I wish I had picked a few more infantry detachments instead to capture a few objectives.

I've had little experience of using Cyclops before but was impressed with their Hellfury Cannon. It isn't mentioned above but they vapourised a Baneblade without any armour roll to save or any damage roll! Deadly! I wonder how much more they could have done with more open terrain and a wider spattering of targets.

My biggest error was failing to spot the danger to my Goliath Mega-Cannon battery. To not have realised that those Vindicators could severely punish me was criminal! As for the loss of my Overlords, I couldn't do much about that, the IG had a few more activations which meant in turn 1 the Marauders were able to hold off appearing until the Overlords were in the fight and couldn't retaliate until the next turn. That's just the way it goes!

Still it was a fun game and there's a lot more to come!

Great Report - From my end i had all the advantages and squandered them!

poor deployment of my artillery/AA (despite knowing the squat's position) rendered them pretty useless.

And that damn cyclops just wouldn't die!

I would say i was lucky to get the win, purely down to my faster units being able to grab the objectives (not something you say about the IG much!)

Marauders were my saving grace, but i always feel a bit bad using them as we all know the flyer system is a bit flawed, in saying that anything that take down those bloody 'cheat-balloons' is fair game in my book! :)

Once again i failed to find a good use for my Baneblades, aside from mowing down some devious squats that came from underground! (superheavies in general have never done well for me, so you'll be glad to hear there are plenty more to face in the coming battles!)

We agreed we could use fliers so I have no complaints about the Marauders other than them doing the job well!

I've always liked superheavies, dunno why you aren't finding success with them. I suppose a bog part of the problem was that they had to keep out of the way of the instakill of the Cyclops Hellfury Cannon!

Look forward to locking horns in the next battle soon!
