I can say, for the moment, that it's built upon a very solid technical base so it should offer some interesting tactical gameplay and options for victory within each scenario. The details of the scenarios though, the modability, co-operative modes and specific details, I cannot yet make comment.

Hi!

I very patient, so take your time. :)

I was looking forward to this … price is a joke though. I enjoyed Rites of War and have no problem with the graphics, i'm just not paying +/-£30 for a turn based game from 1999.

(I enjoy turn based, I enjoy games from 1999, I don't expect to pay £30 for what looks like a re-skin/mod of something that old and simple)

So, since not having power makes playing video games, well... sort of tricky, I'm a little bit behind giving this a really good sit down and poke to fairly write up a review. However, what I can do is give my first impressions based on about an hour and a half of blasting things.

So, first off I'm going to give some pros. The art's nice. It's simple, but it's nice. Everything's very clear, everything's very easy to see and things aren't going to bite you because you wonder what that speck was or why it suddenly means you can't drive your Salamanders there. The game does encourage certain rock-paper-scissors use of units that make logical sense - you don't charge infantry at a tank and expect the tank to take much damage and you don't charge a Lascannon-armed sentinel at infantry, for example. It's also nice to build up your own forces and play with fun units from a universe that I really do still (sometimes shamefully) enjoy.

There are some cons though. It's a little complicated. Not difficult to understand, but you do have to spend the time looking at stats and working them out because it's not obvious how units interact or how morale works, and there aren't obvious windows to show combat calculation predictions like in Panzer Corps. This lack of prediction calculations makes me particularly sad. It does all make sense, but you do have to invest some thought in it. Another con, the voice acting is utterly, utterly, oh my goodness why didn't you just hire me instead terrible. Okay, most people expect that now, but it really sticks out to me. Every single character is just such a cliche even the 40K universe should cringe.

Is it worth playing? Oh heck yes, it's fun to play. Is it really going to be worth the $30 or $40 price tag? No, not right now and not to me. I'd rate this a great $20 game, and I would suggest that as soon as this goes on sale you get it and try it out. It'll be a good way to kill a weekend, but no more unless you have the dedication to produce your own scenarios and exchange those scenarios with other like-minded people.

I agree with most of Doomkittens views. But for me the game is not worth buting. Then again, i'm not overky hooked on video games/computer games and tend to bore easily with them.

I agree with Doomkitten (8 hours into the game, playing the campaign). Quite amusing to see them botch up on telling the story of the Second Armageddon War. The Orks hit Armageddon Prime with all they have and the mission interludes speak of the Orks ruling the skies. Yet, not a single aircraft bothers you during the first missions. Your attached Commissar executes a red sh... your obnoxoius officer colleague for disobeying orders, yet you only get an empty threat ever so often no matter what you do.

Apart from von Strab, who should come of as an incompetent idiot, the characters are very incoherent. One second they're moaning about lost family and relatives and in the next sentence their upbeat happy about something else I can't even bother to remember.

The gameplay makes up for it in my opinion though. I love building my little Steel Legion force with units from my Epic army and sticking it to the Greenskins. I guess that I (sadly enough) don't expect good voice acting or story telling from a strategy game.

I see this is on iPad. I would love to play it on my Wii U console. Do you think there's a chance of convincing them to release it there? The game story might not be great but I am a big big fan of sci-fi/fantasy turn based hex games... so this is REALLY up my street.

The gamepad is basically a touchscreen with a few extra controls, so it should work well, if they can figure out how to port it.

I don't have a PC(MAC) and I don't have an iPad.

I've been waiting for a game like this for ages, and now I don't have time to play!! I've got the game and I'll try to give it a go on the weekends.

Total biscuit seems to have done a good write up.

Basically, it'll appeal to fans, but not people who are just looking for a computer game.

The other thing is that it seems only two of the scenarios are playable with Orks, and there is no campaign for Orks. That is a bit of an issue for me if true.

I'll concur with the "wait until it gets below $20" evaluations.
