Looks like the company is in the process of being rebranded as 'Warhammer'..... Since this is basically all it sells. Not looking good for those people wanting LotR to continue....

I may be wrong but could that just be a Local games Store?

Its on the GW Chiswick Facebook page.
Looks like there are three stores doing this in total right now. Maybe the first wave, or a trial period.
Ex-Staff have said that they like the idea, as people keep wandering in looking for PC and board games.

Interesting. I suppose this could have happened a long time ago, with just about the same effect.

Hi!

At least the store name is accurate. That is all they care to sell now.

It stopped being a "games workshop" many, many years ago.

Makes a lot of sense to me. I've heard many non-gaming people (parents) refer to toy soldiers as 'warhammer', not so much 'games workshop'.

Oh come on. Why is that small caps with a full cap initial letter? GW use all caps for a lot of their branding, WARHAMMER etc. is written that way in their logos, not with a small cap/full cap mix. The above looks sloppy and is inconsistent with their product/brand look.

Technically. a word in caps is easier to read if the first letter in the word is larger than the other letters. Looks like their sign designers got it just right. They should have been doing that in print as well all these past decades, just that no one told them back in the day. ;D

Yeah I suppose that point can be made for legibility. Although, it is not in a decision/time critical context and is only one word used for branding. If they were going that way for legibility why not use lower case with caps? Likewise display types can be acceptable for a large branding sign like that even if they are less legible in general and unsuitable for general reading contexts (and nobody mention the Song and Schwarz study!).

Maybe then want to trade mark it as an image and not the word? Or is that the cynic in me talking?

Well they were more like that before … with the GW display lettering and colours. Dunno. Probably a mistake to try to read reasonable intention into anything GW do :(

I like it. Looks less of a toy store and cooler in black and white. And even if the shop is called Warhammer there is no reason they can't sell other stuff. Thumbs up from here!

There's some interesting discussion from a business perspective occurring on WarSeer general with this topic. The general style consensus seems to be that it looks like a hair salon or high end boutique branding look. Which in some respects seems logical when one considered the small, jewel like objects of magic and wonder we call citadel miniatures. [Kirby impression]

Not sure the connotations that hobby shops have in the UK but in the states a universal belief they're dark and dingy and filled with walker basement dwellers isn't as common. Oh sure there's people and places like that but there's just as many nice upscale stores as well. The point being that perhaps this is about dispelling that impression? The idea being that it dovetails with the high end boutique pricing model they seem to be going for.

Also more than a few former red shirt and HO corporate former employees have brought up some pretty interesting stories about people that walk in looking for something (my favorite being the person wanting a lawn mower :) )
