Hi,

Greetings from a tyranid player.

I'm looking to expand my army collection and I imagine Tau may provide the perfect "opposite" to my nids.

Namely fast and shooty instead og slow and grindy CC.

As I'm completely unfamiliar with Tau in Epic, I was hoping someone could provide me with a sample list with at fast shooty feel to it. Preferably 3K and suggestions on units to expand with or try out.

I'd suggest using plenty of mechanised fire warriors, recons and hammerheads, if you build your list around those formations you won't go far wrong :)

and since when have tyranids been slow? ;)

You can also try a 'fast & shooty' Eldar army, which has possibly even better tools to deal with the pesky 'nids, since it also has cheap disrupt artillery as well as majoring on FF assaults.

I have been nosing around this forum while looking for proxy options.

One thing that struck is the lack of people posting armies or battle reports - at least compared to the Tyranid forums. Maybe I need to dig deeper?

A couple of themed 3K sample lists, with considerations for strategies/tactics and unit changes, would go a long way to help new players ("'saal"?) :)

Personally I'm not a big fan of Eldar. Their dark kindred maybe. However right now I feel mostly drawn to the non-Tau line from Onslaught miniatures. ::)

I like the idea of lots of skimmers and units mounted in dropships though. ;D

basically the recon formations call co-ordinated fire actions with guided missiles from the hammerheads and devilfish, the crisis suits start on OW near the blitz, the orca is there to redeploy them when required, keeping within the flak bubble of the skyrays as orcas are fragile, in the kickings I've had from this list, it waits to pounce on small formations before ganging up on the tough stuff, it's fast and shooty and very similar to the list I'd want to use myself

Recon act in a similar way using guided missiles supported by FW, difference is the use of broadsides - one unit goes on OW forward of the blitz restricting vehicle movement with their range. The other set are loaded in the the orca - FW push forward with their AA skyyay bubble and then the orca deploys the broadsides. As your opponent advances he hides behind terrain+other cover looking forward - then broadsides are suddenly Orca landed giving a completely different fire arc

Still 150 points to spend. Currently the list has two BTS so that's where some of the points will go. Suggestions?

Also, is there any point in adding an Etherial to the FWs?

How about gun drones?

I spend the 150 on adding extra FW+devilfish to the most expensive FW formation

you've not added the firewarriors correctly there :)

he uses the 6 firewarrior stands with 3 devilfish, and in the second formation 10 stands and 5 devilfish

still comes out 25 points cheaper which I think is due to points changes between the 6.4 and 6.6 versions of the list :)

Corrected the FW cardres and spent the last 25 points on some gundrones for the suits (they have the same movement):

I haven't played Tau so much the last two years, but I do have a battle log thread for them. There's a few reports in there and links to some earlier ones. They're not all from the latest version of course, but the differences between list versions are minor (points adjusment and such).
