Hah. further proof that when there are lots of pretty pictures, people ignore the text :)

Yes, the turrets are all separate objects:
"...the turrets are separate to allow folks to position them or use their own designs and to aid casting."

Well Folks, this is one of the last updates that's going to have the renders of the model. At this point, barring any crazy need to resculpt, we are ready to do final checks and get these ready for printing. You'll notice that, in addition to the new Gun prow, the curves throughout both prows and the hull are now smooth. There are a lot of other under the hood changes to aid printing, but you probably won't see them. :) I'll still need to fill in the area under the cannon, but that's either a quick job in blender or we will fill it with clay prior to casting. Sometimes it's just easier that pushing polys :)

Yep. A whole new level. Looks much more spacey than the old GW-stuff methinks.

Cool guys, and thanks. It's been a group effort to nail down a look and direction for the model. Now it's time for the difficult part of printing and ensuring that everything will turn out nice. It's one thing to see a nice zoomed in pic like the above and it's a totally different thing to see a finished print that's a probably a little smaller than the size of your hand. :)

I don't know how I missed this one, but it's a OMG crazy beautiful miniature.

The different gun sections are the best for me, they're just so much better than some ships I used for a game that I used to play :)

Awesome guys!

Right now we are working on getting the first printed prototypes I'll update when I have more info (as in pics of the prints or casts).

And we have progress. :) I've gotten word that the prints for the cruiser are done and waiting so in a few days we should be able to post of pics of the prints providing there were no issues. Quite looking forward to seeing them.

That should be just about the time I'm done with the concept for the frigates so look for that too!

Man, can't wait to see your frigates!

By the way, the ship, how many parts does it consist of? I mean, the main side weapons are separate bits (like the BFG cruisers), but are the prow and other components also separate? Kinda curious how this'll work out. I've been working on some ship designs myself but I keep hearing that it's impossible to cast, even though it's not that far off from what you've got (undercuts wise).

Outside of the weapons and turrets, the ship is in two pieces, the hull and the prow. We are casting these in resin and my caster says that any undercuts will be fine as long as they are below 1mm. If you look at the model though, the only undercuts are on the insets an tips of the wings. There are a few other holes here and there on the model around the engines but that will be filled with clay before casting since it's far easier to shove in a bit of clay than to fill some of the holes with polys.
