All right time to finish the construction of this Thunder Hawk Landing Pad.
So I'm a bit of a sentimentalist, but I still like the old style terrain from 40k 2nd to 3rd Ed in the White Dwarf's
this next photo is the inspiration of this Thunder Hawk landing pad I am attempting to make.

File comment: so I am using a CD label transfer tool for the base of the pad, I removed the middle spindle and the spring, and removed the base it sat in. here it is pulled out, I have cut out one of the sections with a blade to make a lift for the troops and supplies that are loaded and unloaded from the Hawk's.

File comment: here are some shelf supports like you find on Ikea shelf's I cut the nobs off ;D and glued them end to end ( trying to mimic necromunda bulkheads) then using plastic card make struts in the middle of them. and later i will put some grid pattern in the lowered sections of the pad to look like deck plating.

Here is the finale stretch

Attachments:
File comment: So I have laid out the finished panels and the lift, and the base it will be mounted to. trying to best recreate the lading pad in the old White Dwarf photo. with some minor tweaks.

File comment: And so it has finally finished the landing pad. I will eventually paint it, and the outer wall I will make to look like concrete that is riddled with bullets, I will post it here when it is painted. :D

File comment: and there you have it a defenceable Garrison and Landing pad !
I hope you find this useful or at lest interesting approach to making terrain. I think I will make gun pits out of found items next! ^_^

Well I hope it inspires! I would like to see more Terrain in the terrain forum ;D The trick to making terrain out of things you find is to look a all objects you encounter during the day and try to image what it looks like to a 6mm Miniature and at that size what it could represent to that miniature. - or - (what ever scale your doing)
Fact! I some times go to the grocer to look for parts for my terrain! with many of the products these days company's have custom product containers and lids, in fact I have a plan for a Greek yogurt container the kind that has the granola on one side and the yogurt on the other side, I willl cut the two apart and mount the smaller side on top of the larger side and because of the taper it will continue up at the same angle and make for a good tower! :D

OK I have another one This one any one can do, Some of you may even have some of these laying about!
This next Project is "Nintendo DS game packaging" - - - wait for it Gun pits ! super easy to make!
all you need is some plastic styrene sheets sticky-back craft foam, some sort of all-purpose stucco patch or concrete patch, and you guessed it a Nintendo DS game package.

This should be fun! and I plan to make a trench system to go with this!

First start by cut out game holder with some spare plastic around the holder.
then trim the edges to desired size around what will become the gun pit.
Next cut out the bottom of the holder and make a flooring with some plastic card.
next cut out the sticky back foam and size it to the bottom edge of the plastic holder.
last I like to use a coarse hair brush to apply the stucco patch to the gun pit.
then all it will need is some paint and some flocking. :D
