Right! So!

I said in my trade thread i'd post my actual projects here too, and now i'm getting around to it! ;)

So, my epic kick was started off by a blog on what was the Great Crusade forums, and is now the First Expedition forums, a horus heresy forum for all the cool kids that rock it oldschool. (Oh, and hi to those of you who i know from there already! :D )

Basically we're assigned goals to build/undercoat detachments, paint them et cetera, weekly. All heresy-era armies. I went with the Alpha Legion, as i have a major love for them backstorywise, but disliked the fact they're all supposed to be generally identical, which does not an interesting 28mm army make, so sided with the Space Egyptians instead.

However! Epic is pretty much perfect for this, as while i'll still be doing minor conversions and characterisation on units/characters, at 6mm 95% of the army can be identical without it looking dull.

Anyway, as the blog continued, i got mildy distracted and ended up with, uh, a titan legion. :eh So now i'm making an Alpha Legion/Legio Astorum (Warp Runners) combined army, and have a vague intent of an Imperial Army contingent alongside too... ::)

So, since the project has been ongoing a while, i've got something of a surplus of pictures, and i'd rather post build pics And painted pics, at least of the converted things, since conversions are much more my forté than painting.

Ergo, Incoming!!!

Alpha Legion -

Conversions - basically adding back banners to sergeants, the occasional helmet plume, weapon swaps, some reposing et cetera. kneeling missile launcher guy is a personal favourite, based on the fact i stabbed myself about 23 times working on him, so felt he earnt it.

I actually intend to improve the tactical detachments and rhinos, mixing in more variously posed marines (Old metal tacticals i scrounged a few of, some other sources), and mixing in rhinos with added dozer blades and equipment stowage and whatnot. Really, the first detachment was a tester piece, and rushed for the blog.

Legio Astorum -

Tiiitaaaans.

Painted warhounds, still have to add weathering pigment and dull them down a bit -

WIP titans -

Image

Warlord build done, i actually have this painted now but i need an opportunity to take pictures in good light (Being in england, this is a rare occurence) -

Image

Image

Emperor Imperator Class, working on converting it, it's not done yet, still have to add more purity seals, pennants e.t.c., and i hate the basic imperator head so i intend to scratchbuild one from one of the defiler kit heads. either the horned knight mask, minus horns, or the skull faceplate. -

I also have 3 metal reavers on the go, stripping some parts for them then i'll get back to building, and i have to finish the first beetleback warlord, build another, and acquire another modern warlord to work on. plus pick up a FW warhound and some others. and some knights. :-X

Anyway, that's your lot for now, until i get more done or can be arsed to take pictures, C&C are appreciated, awkward silence is however accepted in lieu.

Many Classic Landspeeders died to bring us this conversion ;)

Also good work on making that Emperor actually walk!

Cheers! :] and yes, many landspeeders met a knife's edge for my goals. That said, i prefer the look without a plasma cannon on top anyway!

Yeah, the emperor i had to do something about, so bloody static, so i shifted the legs and arms around a bit, and gave it those pennants to make it look like it was moving at all.

So, i'm considering swapping bases to the new fenris games ones from this thread, viewtopic.php?f=7&t=24463

I wouldn't want to lose some of the conversions i've done so far, so i'd have to cut off and replace each and every marine on the new bases, which is a lot of work and risks ruining a few of them, but i know if i do swap it has to be now, to save more work in the future.

I just love the random, natural look of them, and them making each unit a diorama, which i'm doing with dreadnoughts, speeders, command squads e.t.c. but couldn't do with individual squads.

Thoughts? i think on an army scale, the rectangles look better for that regimented look, but they aren't supposed to be Regimented in this case.

Edit : While in the act of posting this, i've somehow managed to buy 100 of them. No idea how that happened, honest.

So yeah, that happened. Work work work, but Pretty pretty pretty.

Some very nice work ! You could always replace the plasma cannons on the old speeders with another weapon ... just a thought ...

Nice work on the titans. subtle pose work on the emperor makes all the difference. Those pennants would be a good way to disguise damaged/missing turret spikes.

Hiya Adenn.

All great work mate. Your warp runner warhounds are my fave, and the commisar objective model.

I found the Great Crusade forum ages ago and was very disapointed when it seemed to have ended. I did not know it had changed/moved. There were some cool Heresy army's there. Could you show me the link please ?

And I prefer square bases myself but if I had to choose between round and long I'd go long !

Cheers folks :D

@Legion, probably leave them off tbh, i just don't like the aesthetic of it.

@Apolo, yeah, they were pretty perfect, got a bundle of them saved up for things. annoyingly, the two turret spikes i'd lost were the front ones, so i actually cut off and moved the back ones forwards first :P which was, fiddly.

@Dogtrooper, thank ye kindly :D Yeah, the forum moved a while back, and has in fact just moved and changed names again, so here you go! http://z13.invisionfree.com/The_First_E ... /index.php? We're just starting up again, but there's already some really nice blogs on the go.

Right, hullo!

I'm resurrecting this project! Been a busy busy bee with models, everything from more heresy 40k to inquisitor to display minis.

I neglected to update when i finished the alpha legion i had done (And rebased them on the round bases), so here's a pic of that,
Image

However, i worked out what i wasn't liking about them, it's how the indigo armour doesn't 'pop' against the basing.

I also really, really dislike the single-pose marines, even at epic scale it bothers me too much ;) I have however been saving up things from various trades, ebay wins and the like, so i'm restarting the astartes side of this with better materials, with, i reckon World Eaters.
I like the idea of white plate against the urban basing, and i already have luna wolves in 40k So it makes more sense to go with the WE.

I'm continuing with Warp Runners, and still doing the imperial army.

Anyway, pics of what i've chucked together so far,

Image

Image

20-man tactical squad wtih banner, sergeant and nuncio-vox, and the first 5 of a 10-man missile team.

Image

Reposed contemptors, one with an autocannon. :D

Image

Malcadors! Having the 2 in legion colours, have a couple more for the Imp Army.

and summat special,

Image

For what it's worth, if anyone doesn't recognise anything, it's long unavailable and generally lucky finds. :P

Looking forward to getting back to the rest of the titans, as i've got another warlord and 4 or 5 reavers to do, but they're all needing bases from fenris, none of which i can afford at the moment :P

Warhound? i don't see a warhound? :whistle

"For what it's worth, if anyone doesn't recognise anything, it's long unavailable and generally lucky finds. " ;)

Couple of updates! pretty standard whirlwinds, thudd guns and a fellblade/decimator!

WWinds,

Thudd Guns,

And the decimator!

Decimator originally had a marine in the pintle turret, but i think it looks better with the havoc launcher. I'm not sure if i want to add more to it or not, i think it'll look suitably astartes with a paintjob anyway.
