As a result of suggestions, I am working on a forum guide, an introduction to this site, its history, structure and general background for new members here. This thread is here:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25303

Please use this thread for suggestions to include in this guide.

Thanks.

Where will the guide be located in its final form? Not sure the updates board is the most frequented area of the site.

The idea is that the thread can be used to point people at and can be linked in several places. I could eventually add a link to the 'new registration' email that members get suggesting it as a starting point, and a page on the (eventual!) web site with a link to it too. Essentially, where it is located is less important than how publicised it is.

Also, for my own reference - http://www.taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/ ... 69&t=20788

A link in the welcoming email sounds like a great idea.

Cheers CyberShadow :)
Stuff I'd like to see:
1) A potted history of Epic.

2) Jargonbuster – a glossary of terms to include NetEA, EpicUK, ERC, FERC, AC,

3) The reasons for, and aims behind list development here.

4) Who to talk to – a top-down list of the hierarchy of the organisation, from the mysterious Ruling Committee ;) to the individual Army Champions (ideally with links). If you don't want to maintain a living list through an annual edit, a simple flowchart of positions would be great.
4i) As a subpoint of this, it would be really useful to identify people by username, and to have a central location for this list. Suppose I'm a new Space Marine player and get really enthused about the Salamanders list. I mainly post in the Space Marine subforum, and rarely go to the others subfora. I do some playtesting and post the results in the Salamanders thread. However, if I know that my opponents' armies also require playtesting, it's easy for me to find (say) the Squat or Tyranid AC and post the results in their development thread, too. This means the ACs need to do less chasing, and increases the cross-pollination of lists.

5) FAQ
5i) What is the difference between the NetEA and EpicUK, and why do the two organisations exist?
5ii) I am interested in helping out – how can I do this?
5iii) Where can I find the most up-to-date rules?
5iv) Why should I use the NetEA lists?
5v) What are the differences between the last published GW version and the current NetEA version?
5vi) I have a rules query. Where should I ask?

+++Edit+++
6) The Epic Supplements! These are such a great demonstration of what the community can produce, that it would be a terrible shame not to have them front-and-centre :)

+++Edit+++
To help out, here's the jargon thread I set up. Please feel free to poach any bits that are useful. You'll probably be better placed to explain them than me, and I'd much prefer the help I received got to a wider audience :)

Please let me know what, if anything, I can do to help with this initiative :)

That's a fantastic list, thanks. I will try to add in as much as I can.

As a total new guy, I would add a table or chart showing the main diffrences between the various rule sets. Or a link to it? As I get more into it I intend to try them all out anyway, but the views of people who have done them all (Epic, SM and Titan, EA, and EpicA) would be helpful :)

Good idea. Could you provide a link to some you'd like to see? :)

Bit more jargon-busting!

EA: Epic: Armageddon, the fourth and most recent iteration of Games Workshop's 6mm wargame rules.
E40k: Epic: 40,000, the third iteration of Games Workshop's 6mm wargame rules.
SM2/TL: Space Marine (second edition) and Titan Legion, two games that shared the same core gameplay rules. These were the second iteration of Games Workshop's 6mm wargame rules.
SM/AT: Space Marine (first edition) and Adeptus Titanicus, two games that shared the same core gameplay rules. These were the first iteration of Games Workshop's 6mm wargame rules.

+++Edit+++
Would be useful to note that EpicUK stems from SM/TL, while NetEA stems from EA.

Another thing I thought might be useful – a section on the current supplements in development, that includes:
1) A brief description of the story and armies involved.
2) Concrete suggestions on how to help out (e.g. a link to the battle report forum for playtests, requests for colour text/art – with extent and style explained clearly etc.)
3) Links to the sublists, accompanied by a direct link to the Army Champion in each case.

It probably makes sense just on principle to have a sticky thread in each subforum to have much of the above information, especially related to lists and sub ACs responsible for each.

NetEpic, not EpicUK. But agreed on all other points.

Let's not live NetEpic out of this discussion. That would also need to be added to the terminology list to distinguish it from NetEA, Epic UK, Epic 40K, Titan Legions, and second/first edition Epic.

I would caution against including too much information though. If there are too many links to an excessive number of threads, it becomes overload. The key thing to ensure is that everyone knows what all the different rules sets are for (i.e. which game), and which boards on the forum correspond to these armies.

I would avoid cluttering the thread with Staff positions, ACs, and all that information. This belongs in a separate thread entitled 'Staff - who we are, and what we do'. CS, is there a mod, like there is for SMF, for creating a Staff page? This would be helpful for this.

One thing that may be useful is if the documents/rules themselves where hyperlinked. That way if you had them on a laptop and you were playing a game, you could click to the relevant section rather than endless scrolling!
