Well Terminators aren't infested with a warp based techno-virus :D

Plenty of Land Raiders are, mind you.

Instead of adding an AA Defiler, howabout a Hunter, Hyperios or Helios? All three vehicles came about because Marines identified a gap in their air defence. If Chaos also have developed AA Defilers then it's no leap of imagination to see them rearming Rhinos and Raiders to shoot at planes.

That's the "Stalker" that keeps getting referred to.

In concept is was designed as a pre-heresy equivilent to the Hunter, about 4 years ago when we were attempting to fix the same issue as now (CSM armies lacking AA means that mech. styles aren't all that attractive, plus at the time Obliterators were commonly seen as abusively powerful*). Jervis ok'd the stats in concept, but it never gained the support of the Army Champion so the idea was abandoned.

Helios has no AA capability BTW, that's a Land Raider with a Whirlwind launcher on top.

I've forgotten the Stalker's exact stats, but IIRC it was something like a standard Rhino hull, with a 30cm weapon that had 4x AA6+ shots. So slightly better than a Hunter when rolling to hit, but shorter range as befits the CSM style.

*They were later downgraded in power, and are generally seen as fine now.

Ahhh, I've not heard of the Stalker before. I'd like to see one of those from a modelling point of view. AA in Epic is essential, and it would be far friendlier to newer players to give them the option of converting a Stalker from exisitng Rhino bits than it would be to ask them to scratchbuild a Defiler or Obliterator.

It's not just a Whirlwind launcher, it's a Hyperios Whirlwind launcher - which was specially developed for close air defence. While it doesn't have AA stats in the NetEA Scions list - it is mentioned in Imperial Armour - Apocalypse II as fulfilling an air defence role.

Oh, missed that retcon sorry. It used to just be a whirlwind launcher.

It was intended in concept to be some sort of rotary barreled weapon, perhaps akin to an early assault cannon prototype.

Helios on the FW site still has a standard FW Whirlwind, not a Hyperios. Unless it's changed in one of the Apocalypse books.

That would increase the number of activations without losing the Chaos Space Marines as the heart of the army.

I think that your idea of limiting support formations to the number of Retinues will address that.

I'm sorry I don't understand?

According to Curis it's been retconned in Imperial Armour Apocalypse II to have an AA mode too.

I've done a little digging. To clear up Land Raider Helios confusion...

The Imperial Armour Volume II the Helios has a standard Whirlwind Launcher.

The Imperial Armour Apocalypse II the Helios has the option of upgrading the Whirlwind to a Hyperios anti-aircraft launcher for +20 points.

Oh, so that'd actually make it a Land Raider Hyperios. :)

New type of Land Raider, yay! :p

Correct :) And it also says that the Hyperios Launcher can only fire at aircrafts.
