So today I had a game between Eldar Biel-Tan (me) vs. Yme-Loc (opponent) and to say it was a fast and bloody game would be an understatement. Barely made three turns...but I digress.

One thing came up during the game that I felt it was a little overboard with the rules, so I called him out on it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I felt like it wasn't right. ANYWAY...so during the twilight of the 3rd turn, as the massacre continued, my opponent was pursuing a falcon troupe of mine with his sword warhost and we ended up having a firefight, in which one of his Windrider units was within support range AND his Warlock Titan. So as he was adding up his dice for the roll, he was including the Warlock's weapons on top of his 6 firefight rolls he already received from the titan itself. Uhhhh last time I checked the rules state units get to attack with their firefight value. Am I wrong here?

Ummm....

Was he shooting his weapons? Or using his extra FF attacks from said weapons?

The Warlock would get it's 6 base shots, plus any extra attacks it would normally get in FF. So yes the powefist extra attacks are added as well, anything with a range of (15cm) get's to be used, the stuff labeled "Small Arms" in the firepower column. Keep in mind though that support hits from the Warlock can only be allocated to units who rolled a CC or FF attack in the assault and that are within 15cm of Warlock. It's a monster...

Warlocks with PF get 9 FF attacks total. If he's shooting hte fist lasers and pulsar on top of that ,he's doing something wrong/

A Warlock with a PF gets 11* FF attacks and 2 of them are TK (D3). A beast indeed!

(*= 6x basic + 3 for the PF + 2 x TK for the psychic lance)

Okay - reading comprehension fail. Somehow I read Phantom. You are, of course, correct.

Hmmmm...well that blows. :'( But now that you mention the 15cm rule, I don't believe he was anywhere near 15cm to my units. We were both in engagement range, but not CC...

Not that it really matter since all of my rolls were 1's and 2's and his were 5's and 6's before either of the other 2 units got to throw their dice in...just a tad overkill in my opinion. :o

15 cm is engagement range, as well as support fire range.

CC is just one way of fighting an engagement. The other and generally most common and effective (IMO) way, though is Fire Fight.

Warlocks are a bugger and certainly do justify their hefty 850pt price tag. Next time you play though, I'd advise targeting it with any disrupt weapons you have (Although it's a tough mother to bring down, it only had 6 DCs and so is relatively easy to break) and/or trying to catch the brute in a cross fire. Warlocks aren't quite so tough when their save is reduced down from 3+/5+ to 4+/6+ and of course the first damage point you inflict causes 2 BMs instead of 1.

Failing that, since your opponent has spent 850pts on a single model, his army is likely to be quite small and activation light, so try avoiding the Warlock an killing/breaking his other units to win an activation advantage and then ganging up on the Warlock in later turns once he's run out of activations.

Yeah I wasn't planning on attacking the Warlock, but my opponent decided to go after my Revenants and I DID have a formation of falcons and a formation of Swooping Hawks ready pound him back... but as always, when I got a good plan of attack, my legendary dice rolling of 1's and 2's didn't disappoint.

I totally feel your pain. Not being able to roll a 2+ at a vital moment has plagued my Eldar Epic career.

It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who has things perfectly lined up in his head, and then fails to activate the essential units ;)
