Since Halloween is fast approaching and it's time once again for scary movies, ghosts, goblins, trick-or-treaters,parties, etc...(at least in the US), I thought it would be appropriate to share some horror stories with one another. Topic has to be about your worst encounter with the mighty Titans or your own disasterous Titan misfortune AND try to keep it to no more than 3 paragraphs in length. I'll go first.

So this would be about 2 years ago and one gent in my gaming group decides to ask if I'd be interested in playing EA since we had a long group discussion about the good old days of 2nd Ed of 40K and Epic Titanicus. I was estatic to play and agreed to play the following week. This was to be my first game of EA. He shows up with Space Marines, Orks, IG and lots of Titans. We agree to 4000 pts and I took the marines. He decides on Titans since it would be easier on me with him having less activations than me, giving me an huge advantage...or so I thought. The only problem with that is he takes 3 Imperator Titans (and YES he owns a quadrillion of them). I'm pretty sure the game lasted maybe 3 turns...I got wiped. I couldn't roll a critical hit for the life of me and he couldn't stop rolling 6's for maximum carnage.

A week later we decided to play again. This time I took the 3 Imperators (I wanted payback) and he takes IG. Barely 2 turns later, I get wiped again. Rolling a 1 on my first roll for critical hit results makes for a short game. So we actually play another game and low and behold....ANOTHER 2 turn wipe. Critical Hit..roll result 1 for each Titan. BOOM! At this point, I'm thinking, "OK, I hate this game...I'll give it one more week."

Next week rolls around, I try IG and he goes Marine/Titan...(Imperator specifically). I couldn't touch the damn thing...Didn't play for 6 months after that. I was for sure EA was invented by the devil and he wanted me to suffer...

Fielding three Imperators (or any Titans for that matter) in your first game really wasn't very sporting of him.

Your right, but then again my gaming group consists of cut throats, gypsy and shysters. And the irony of it, he was the moderate one...LOL! ;D

Sounds like my gaming group, ESPECIALLY DS ;D

My story is a short one: As an experiment, I fielded a 3K "Space Marine Titan traction" list: A warlord (the "Indestructus"), supported by a lot of low-cost SM formations. I was fighting Dave's SM. Well, in the middle of one turn, the warlord with its weakened voids (I think 1/2 strength) was positively bent over by Dave's Pred-Annihilators, losing the rest of its voids and suffering a few points of damage from one round of firing. More importantly, it suffered a crit. You all know where this is going: I rolled a '1' at the end of the turn and *poof* - all that was left of Indestructus was a fairly large crater and some greasy carbon deposit on the board. What can you do with titan traction without the titan? It turns out that you can't do much...

On the bright side, since then "Indestructus II" (the same model) has been much tougher in all of his games, despite the fate-tempting name.

Warhound Titans A and B are standing next to each other.

- Warhound Titan A is shot at by a Sentinel weilding a Multi-laser, and fails its armour save.
- Warhound Titan A takes a critical hit, and stumbles into Warhound Titan B, doing a point of damage to both Titans.
- Warhound Titan B takes a critical hit from that damage, stumbles into a building, doing a point of damage, that is also a Critical Hit.
- Warhound Titan B stumbles back into Warhound Titan A, takes another point of damage, and dies.
- Warhound Titan A takes a critical hit from being stumbled into, and expires.

The Sentinel pilot laughs.

Neal had a story of the same ilk as E&C's, involving Battlefortresses I believe. I love those kind of stories.

Aside from frying the Indestructus all I've got are numerous Chaplains lost to melta-bomb runs on super-heavies that go critical, and a Harridan died once from a bayonet to the eye from Guardsman Schmuckatelli.

The best I can come up with is one game in which I was playing against my nephew's Eldar. My very first shot at a Phantom Titan managed to disable the holo-field. Needless to say, without its holo-field the Phantom didn't live long.

I don't use titans because they are too vulnerable (in my hands)

I just roll lots of '1's (typically for activations). At Britcon for example, in one game I teleported my terminators throwing 3x '1's, and then proceeded to throw a further 6x '1's to fail any activation that was not automatic - a total of 9x '1's out of 10 dice or odds of over 12 million against. . . .

The following game I only managed 6x consecutive '1's - a much better game (lol)

I can best that DS. At a tournament several years ago I played my IG against an Eldar player with a Phantom. At the start of the game I won initiative and on a wim fired my Deathstrikes. Needless to say two hits, two failed holofield saves and one dead phantom. This would have been bad enough on my opponent except that in this tournament the final round opponents were determined on points scored and I ended up playing the same opponent. This time I didn't get to go first and the Phantom moved forward into some cover. Jokingly I said this can't happen again and proceeded to fire my Deathstrikes. Two hits, two further failed holofield saves and the phantom went down again....

My Banelord was once guarding by Blitz and in the first few activations of the game the sheilds were stripped..."Meh!" I think to myself, before a stray Autocannon shot criticals the Titan and it proceeds to leave the board backwards...
Lesson learnt: keep banelords more than 12cm away from the board edge.

A similar story to E&C's but minus the titans:
Vampire Raider lands and disgorges for an air assault which goes moderately well for the Eldar player...UNTILLLL...a lone Roughrider stand in FF support range turns arounds, pops off a couple of laspistol shots and slays the Raiders pilot with a critical hit!

Kind of reminds me of Curis' Thunderhawk critical hit comic...

Only had an Eldar Avatar uppercut my Warhound Titan. He even stumbled backward before crumbling down (3 unsaved hits, one was a critical).

Here's a real horror story. Many years ago, Suvarov organized an Epic tourney in Albany, which unfortunately had only three people sign up - Moscovian, Suvarov and me. Since we knew this beforehand, we decided to play a 3-way mega-battle. Suvarov played Orks, Mosc played Eldar and I played AMTL. We brought basically everything we owned for our armies. We ended up with 17000 points each (I had to borrow a couple of Titans from Mosc to bring me up to 17k). The horror behind this magnificent battle was that I forgot to bring my two Imperators. :'( It would have been really cool to see my Imperators in action, especially since there was a Mega-Gargant.
