We just put the old SM2 OBJECTIVE COUNTER on or next to the model, structure, etc. ...

personally, i wish more people would place objectives over things worth fighting over ("this particular patch of plains is an objective because i know it will be hard for you to hold" isnt cool, "this refinery is an objective because my tank companies want the fuel there" is. be cool people, be cool)

For general objectives I use the 40k teleport homer (from terminator box). Tyranids though I've got a load of those things from the genestealer box and the synapse node from the boxset.

Lately I've been using BFG 'blip' tokens, does the job.

GW/FW did do some objective markers, think they were about 25mm squared.

Aesthetics can be important, but I find the diorama objectives can also negatively shape a player's tactical decision. With the 60mm firebase I mentioned earlier, I've never seen him place the objective in a complex terrain feature, even when it'd make sense to do so.

Yeah, with measuring from the center of the marker, size precluding good placement is my only concern.

I use 2 25mm round bases for the T&H objectives (for lack of a better term) and a square one for the blitz - that way, I can measure from the center of the back edge. Come to think of it, a round blitz might be even easier, as you just measure from where the circle and the table edge meet, the tangent, so to speak. I is smart! :P

Would there be any objection to multiple sizes? I just started working on some for my LaTD & several are 25mm, a couple are 40mm, and one is 60mm.

The smaller ones could be used to avoid issues with Blitz/terrain placement and the larger ones are suitable for other areas.

I think you could avoid mistaking larger base size objectives for terrain by just keeping the mass of the model resonable.

I use 25mm square bases, with a radar, fuel tanks, an AA gun, a destroyed tank... small but good-looking.

25mm square is enough to fit the DRM terrain pieces (Weapon Platform pack).

You were one of those mistaking it as a terrain feature! :D

yes and that's because it's actualy bigger than 40mm ;) Didn't have an issue with my other two :)

My objectives are all on 25mm bases, except my wraithgate, which is on a 30mm base instead. I prefer smaller markers on the whole.

I prefer larger objectives, mainly because it gives me the ability to create a marker that actually looks like it could warrant fighting over. I mean, ruined tanks are cool and all, but crashed T-hawks are cooler. And while I think the E:40k objectives are great (they are 25mm square), I like to have the ability to put them into context with a little scene.

Finally, I figure that 60mm round bases are fine seeing as how other playing pieces in the game use them, too. I mean, if you wanted a crashed reaver or warlord as an objective, would it really make sense to force that onto a smaller base?

Objectives are meant to be points of strategic concern, which can be both large and small. My take on the matter is that their size shouldn't exceed the size of other units in the game. The biggest* units in the game use 60mm bases, so objectives can too.

*broadly speaking

What Semaj said.

Most of mine are in the ballpark of 40mm square, but they vary based on what size is needed for them to look good.

I use a Damocles Rhino as Blitz Objective and E40k Markers as T&H Objectives.
