I regenerated some architectural components when I did the custom base print. Pictures available on Thursday.

(Note this is a trick, as I don't specify which Thursday).

LOL

One of my dreamy dreams is to make a resin 1/300 version of the Frauenkirche Dresden, simply because I was unable to build the paper version of it (damn paper!). To this end, I made some components, such as doors and windows, that I figured I could use, along with some patterned plasticard, to kitbash up the church .

The more daunting part would be the huge, bell-shaped dome. I couldn't hand manufacture that, so 3D CAD and print was inferred. Since the dome is radially symmettric, I figured I could print one-eighth of the dome, then cast that eight times.

Today I did an approximate mass measurement and price experiment. PrintAPart is claiming that it will cost more than $120 for the print.

Sigh.

I guess I'll try other 3D printers. Some printers have a good price/performance for really large objects.

I'm sure I've seen something that'd be the right shape and size. Sure of it.

What're the dimensions you need, O Otterly one?

Argh, too drunk to remember. Note that it's not quite hemispherical - there's something neat and distinct with the shape involved.

Hey, Angel of Caliban, PM me your address and I'll send you samples. I should have a few laying around. There, that should make up for my smart-assery.

Edit - about 80mm diameter by 70 diameter tall. Still drunk.

But your smart assesness is what make you a Magical Otter! =)

So after re-reading the thread I found that there are no neat Otter pics at all.

Sounds like someone needs a flogging....=)

Some hollowing action reduced the price of the dome segment to 90 dollars. Various rotation tricks didn't seem to affect the price any.
