I finally decided to pick up epic. after being a 40k/bfg/Inquisitor player for 15 odd years, it seemed natural, allthough i had a slight problem with the current range.

i wanted a chaos renegade list... looking at the current epic models my options where pretty limited. some guard and the chaos pack plus a few snassy titans seemed to be the way to go, allthough i wanted something different. my main opponent would be fielding guard, so i was trying to avoid having to blow up shadowswords with shadowswords and bacically fighting myself.
then, i got a look at the netepic lists and i was inspired. here was a chaos list with all the variety of the old days and demonic engines to match.... but wait.... these demons must have been drinking hard to come up with this... a catapult on tracks? a giant scorpion on tracks? a toilet on tracks? come on! i need a real army, not a teenagers wet dream from the 80´s.

and then i saw the squat list: tons of artillery, giant warmachines with void shields, a decent morale all over, and range that would make the guard weep.
but want to field? the land train, airship and colossus came to mind but are there other units that need a looking into as especially valueable?

edit: i have begun conversion work on the warmachines since ebay is a hard battle to get them. will post pics soon....

Let me be the first to welcome you to TacComm!

I recently (in the last 6 months) began assembling a Squat force from all the old models that I never got when they were available in the stores. So far it is a decent enough collection, and I'd like to make mine a more "modern" force whilst still using those old classic models. Your scratch-building and proxies will therefore be very interesting to me!

I look forward to seeing what you come up with and perhaps sharing some ideas.

Agreed.

Also, you might find the minis by Exodus Wars very helpful if you're finding Squat infantry/bikes hard to get hold of  :;): .

thanks for the warm welcome  :;):

as for the bikes i kinda felt that they should be a part of the force, but not defining it. expensive cavalry can only do so much, and tend to crumble fast under fire, but those exodus trikes are to die for. thanks for the link.

as for my proxies ill be posting pics of my land train in-the-making soon, as well as a walker im not really sure of what should be, possibly a cyclops.

well, thing is, my army will probably not include a single bushy beard when its done. i simply like the play style and will be making them into something a lot more dark and nasty. alas, the race is dead in my view.... but the tech lives on.

Hmm, have you looked at Zap123's rules for the Chaos Squats... it may be of interest. I thought they were pretty good to, wouldn't mind playing or playing against them... great another army to build.

the link was bad there warhead, but i imagine my army will be regualer squats list, with allied chaos and the infantry will be taken from old ig and orcs. the orcs i find, when painted differently, dont look orky at all, but more like bulky storm troopers, and thats the look im going for.

i will include a full fluff section once ive written it, but imagine a force of renegade imperials, highly disiplined, that come across a dead planet ravaged by the tyranids, only to find that the factories and forges of the once great race of squats are still intact.

much like the blood pact of dan abnetts books. chaos with some ambition and with a driving goal to either rend asunder or use all they encounter to increase their size.
so to be quite frank: i will NOT have any "space dwarfs" in the army. their dead and gone. allthough their tech is quite usefull. however if your into surviving scotts with a growth defect, i have no problem with that :)

Cool...always good to welcome aboard a new...kind of Squat player

If you look at the EW Khazari, they aren't actually short.  More like an army of militant Santas.  They might be the trick?

As for Squat armies...Guild Brotherhood, Guild Bikers, Gyrocopters, Colossi, Cyclops and Airships are the makings of an army difficult for most to beat.  I've never been a fan of the Land Train mini, and game wise it is a bit weak compared to the Praetorians.  Some people swear by the Goliaths...I always end up swearing AT mine.

For my Chaos Squat list, go here for all the current, updated NetEpic lists.  You'll find the C-Squats in there.  (Alternatively use the WikiWikiWar button up the top of the page and go to File Galleries, NetEpic lists)

You don't like Guild Bikers?

Dude! They are nails, a hard hitting, deadly rapid reaction force. Death to enemy artillery and fantastic for nabbing objectives and blitzing weakened enemy formations (particularly ones that have just met the explosive end of a Grand Battery).

Welcome :)

The bikers guild is a must have company in any NE squat army :) Overlords, Colossus and Mega canon Goliath are also important.

Squat Land train become interesting if you take it with the bombard car and the 3 specialist wagons (dragon and berserker wagons are rarely used during the battle as they have a shorter range).

You can see part of my squat force there :)
