Oman, if you don't like sculpting and need rivets, can you use small gauge plastic rod glued in place instead? All that requires is a dot of glue and some forceps.

a very very small dot of glue else you lose all resolution on that model.

lose the rivets entirely?

Maybe so, MadDoctor. I'm casting the heckhammers as-is, and the recipients can file off the rivets or re-rivet as desired.

Sorry for the general lack of progress on all fronts - trying to mold recent bronzes, modelling the petite crabe, and casting work for some of you guys. I've been chasing my 4 year old around for the last week, and had a nasty virus this weekend that caused all sorts of pain and yucky gastronomical behavior. More Bella chasing today, and tomorrow is jury duty.

State of the Otter, Tuesday, December 9 2008

Robot bug still not casting correctly; got too ambitious about minimizing air flow. Should make second mold for capacity.

Kess btender bridge is casting well. Need to do a test paint to see how portholes work, and this will dictate the design of the engine.
Then, when the engine is done, I'll send that and the Centaur for bronzing.

Kess btender body will be test cast today.

Modest progress of custom-jobs for Erik M and Napalm.

I always feel these Otterman updates are a bit Treky like...

"Otter Log. Stardate 47879.2 The Expedition into Resin territory is presenting unforeseen problems. Damn those Klingons!.."

...Ah, ok serious people being serious... I'm shutting up now.

Certain "How many do you want" polls were removed recently, at my own request.

Tonight I will submit the Kess battle tender engine and Centaur proxy to Todd Boyce (the bronze guy) for quotation.

Some meager progress on the Nectaris Nashorn/Hadrian self-propelled artillery...

But I liked the Captain Kirk picture.

Hey man, you want more suggestions? Well...I've got a BFG thing for you. Over at the Anargo Sector Project we started a "project within the project" of a sorts. It's the Venturer which is a pre-Imperial ship. We plan on having 3d art for the whole ship (including insides), blueprints, RPG and BFG rules, artwork, fluff, basically the whole deal in extreme detail.

You can see two very early concept pictures of the ship here.

Maybe we can, once the project is kind of running come up with ideas for an actual model of the thing! :D

Robot bug mold didn't work consistently, so it went into the trash.
Battle tender body section mold sucked, so it went into the trash.

Edit - obviously I'll do replacement molds. My success rate with molds on novel topologies is usually only 60%.

Malika: my magic 8-ball says "answer uncertain, ask again later." But what size would you expect the model to be?

In real life the ship would be 1.2km, if I recall correctly the escorts in BFG were about 1-1.5km, so I guess the model would be the size of an escort in BFG. :)

But yeah, the project is still at it's veeeeeeeeeeeery early stages, so it will be a while before it may potentially enlarge your workload! ;)

Money for tankette bronze production has been transmitted.

Update: after I transmitted the money, Todd emailed and told me he actually started the print yesterday in anticipation. They will probably be delivered to the investment caster on Saturday.
