Here's the backside showing slots and tabs. The length of a single wall section is 94mm

Woah, these look great! So, now's the time to start thinking out my ruined city project then.

Here's the downside: they're whopping big. The wall section shown is 8 cubic centimeters. That's really costly for rapid prototyping, unless GrowIt's output is affordable.

Perhaps I should re-consider the idea of smaller architectural components to assist with traditional styrene/plasticard modelling.

Those look beautiful, any chance at all that they might see production? I'd love some epic ruins but they seem quite rare on Ebay.

I think we all feel that way about Epic buildings.  They go for outrageous amounts on Ebay so I've never bought any up from there. Luckily I was fortunate enough to have picked up two E40K boxes worth way back when, but I'd like to have more. If you're still thinking of producing a line of buildings some undamaged or slightly damaged ones to mix among the ruined ones would be really sweet. I foresee these things going like hot cakes. :)

Good news, everyone! We're off to a mission on Virgon-6.

But seriously folks, I just did some experimenting with the Acu-Cast auto-quoting software, and I can get that big wall made for about $10. The catch - I have to buy about $100 of other stuff to get that done.

So, I'm pestering David Mihail to see if he started my other job. If not, I'll just fling all of the outstanding stuff (Kirche type windows, robot turret, this wall and pillar, etc.) to AcuCast.

Now I just need that $100...but there's a deal already underway to get me that working capital.

Hope you get that done Otter. I think in the end projects like this that have such a mass appeal will help to fund your smaller projects.

Open call for architectural component ideas.

Sketches, modified pictures, or links to pictures would really help. I'm not a very good artist or original thinker and need to borrow your aesthetic abilities.

Those are great, but what aspects in particular do you like about them? The windows? The spire things?

Hm. After some pondering, maybe the way I should go about this is to go back to my 'Revenge on the Paper Model of the Frauen Kirche Dresden' project. For those of you who don't know (95% or more, probably), I purchased a paper model of the FKD and failed TWICE to assemble it to any satisfaction. So I wondered what it would take to scratch build it with traditional wargamer materials; the big sticking point were the windows (and massive dome), thus leading to my FKD class baroque windows.

This will give me specific goals thus yielding real life objects to model and print.

I like the wall pieces and the way the towers look :)

To have several pieces you could stick together to build any shape of building (with 90° corners) with towers to stick on the roof or corners, options for flat roofs and/or angled roof and possibly one big dome would be really cool :)

Nice pics. I also quite like the mix of gothic and modern architecture. That's one thing that worked really well for the old styrofoam buildings from AT.

If you could mix a bit of art deco and gothinc style I'd be happy. Art Deco has that nifty "MEtropolis" feel that I think is a bit lacking in the currently available Epic buildings.

This is the kind of cityscape I imagine Titans stomping around in to be honest... Not the boring wide street, lumber town two story building cities you see on most epic cityboards these days :;):

Old Crow already makes buildings similar to that though.

What I think makes 40K unique are the Gothic elements in its architecture,

I disagree. The old crow is more of a brutalistic design with more horizontal lines. The Deco style has more vertical lines which blends in nicely with the gothic style.
Besides the current ruin spures already borrow from a whole range of different architectureal styles besides gothic.
Pure gothic style makes nice cathedrals but to capture the technocratic bureaucracy that I imagine in an Imperial city I'd like to see more of a combination of styles; Large anonymous facades of endless offices that seem to reject human nature. A gothic cathedral is actually quite interesting to look at with many beautiful variations. Problem is that a lot of the gothic elements (buttresses etc.) make it a bit tricky to build something tall. The short tall sections from the ruin spures try this to some success though. What I would like to see is sections made in a combination of styles that allow you to build things as tall as you want (ie. some sort of vertical repeatable principle). The Gothic buildings you see on both 40k ad Epic gaming tables simply aren't big enough to my taste :p
Borrowing a few elements from Art Deco could help solve that problem. The Styrene buildings from Adeptus Titanicus and the printed buildings from the Space Marine 1 and 2 boxed sets did that. I think it helps bring a bit of variation to the table instead of cities full of cathedrals.

Fair enough. Variation of any kind would be welcomed!

What I'd really like to see are some flying buttresses!!  :)
