I will generally air on the side of what makes more sense regardless of abstraction.

A noble endeavor, but the RAW clearly say it can see through hundreds of meters of roofs, in fact it can attack things on the bottom level of a fortified bunker, under a mountain if it wants to.

As can any unit shooting into a building.  It's cover isn't the issue - it is the LOS that is making some people annoyed.

Not if there's 10cm of it they can't, only planes and Support Craft can do that which I believe are precisely the things that bunkers and mountains are used to protect against.

In all honesty, as I've hinted, these things don't bug me much because I tend to be IG and IG are good are shooting things to bits.

I shudder at how Marines deal with these things though since it can just ignore CC you can't do the old standard Termy Death Charge ™.

Who wrote the Support Craft rule?

Because each time I read it, it just seems that it's not meant to be able to let you shoot anything on the board just those units hiding behind terrain, not deep within it. It just screams "badly worded" and that people are taking advantage that. It seems VERY wrong.

No one wanting to own up to the Support Craft rule eh?  :vD

Can it be re-written to state

"may see over all terrain"

instead of

"may have LOS to everything on th table etc etc"

I think you've scared everyone off, Dobbsy

I will have to put my hands up to that one. Although I do think that I based the text on a previous example...  :p

Dobbsy your last suggestion isn't bad.  It still keeps the simplicity of the rule while allowing for cover in some instances.

It also keeps the ***

'Always popped up' is also simple, and a *lot* more tactically interesting.

*** I really wanted to write 'absurdity' there, but that's just snarky... so I'm going to put it there in a self-aware manner, to show that I don't mean ill.

If there is any change (I must admit I don't mind the rules as they are now) my vote would be for Dobbsy's suggested modification rather than always popped up.

Well Dobbsys modification, doesn't really change anything in game (but merely wording of the rule). Unless I've mistaken something? I really would hate to start measuring heights of things for 10cm.

No, Dobbsy's modification doesn't really change much, Morays and Mantas would still see and shoot over anything at will without the need for manuever, and be able to shoot units that are inside all but the deepest terrain features.

Why would you be measuring heights of anything for 'always popped up' ?

Always popped up is much less gittish ; I'm not sure that that was Dobbsy's intention Hena.  :))

I didn't think of that - good point, since you just aren't measuring into terrain but measuring at some unmeasurable angle.

E&C/All,

Try using the always popped up idea a few times in games and let everyone know how it goes.  If I have the opportunity I will do the same.  I am just tired of hearing about this APU idea that is being touted as vastly superior to what we have when I really haven't heard of it being played.  Oh, pictures help when it comes to something like this, folks.  Comments like "We've played dozens of games like this and haven't had any issues" don't move discussion forward.

It also keeps the ***

'Always popped up' is also simple, and a *lot* more tactically interesting.

BTW, when you delete a word and then mention it later - it not only still comes off as 'snarky' but you come off as arrogant as well.  You've said worse before so just say what you mean - it helps keep things on topic.
