Just to clarify, is your proposal that they move only after "shooting" in the sense of ranged fire?

Yes

Would it apply to Engage actions (not that they Engage often, but there are situations in which Crisis Suits might want to)?

No

Note that although it hasn't happened in our playtests (Tau jetpack units almost never sustain fire ...), but I guess that yes, a 10cm post-shooting move would be allowed if they sustained fire.

Which is no different to the 10cm jump back move which is allowed under the current rules, even if a jetpack formation has sustained fire.

The only difference is that:

a - This proposal is more predictable in nature (And thus you can form more concrete strategies both when using it and when fighting against it).
b - It can only be used once per turn, instead of limitlessly as it the case at the moment.

Okay, in that case I like it.

So far I don't see an argument to make me want to accept this proposal. In fact Hena makes some good points.

The thing that encouraged me to attempt to change the list was this abusive army list.

2 Morays
Barracudas
Rail Heads

The job of these units is to strip away the enemys armoured transports as soon as possible.

6 Crisis suit units with SC to protect artillery from teleporters.

2 Stealth suit formations to spot for the artillery

and 3 formations of stingrays.

I find this a very abusive list considering that it is difficult to engage stealth suits and they can use their markerlights from 30cm away and jump back another 10cm. This means in order to engage one unit of stealth suits an enemy formation needs to move a minimun of 25cm. Added onto this a 10cm consolidation move and a first strike FF attack makes clipping the formation unwise.

I have used this army list a few times and think that a change to the jump pack rule will nerf it substantially.

For A. Eh? It's equally predictable just as current system. But it's better in sense that you get to use it more often. And with Hold, Sustain and Overwatch, it feels more abuse then currently.

For B. This is irrelevant. Eldar have a lot better system and that is not considered abuse, so why would this be either since it's worse?

A - There's no reason that you couldn't add the caveat that 'When undertaking an Advance or Double order' to the rule, thereby removing this objection.

B - The Eldar rule must be initiated by the Eldar player, and the Tau Jetpack rule is a darn sight better than the Eldar rule too. :)

This proposal is how Tau Jetpacks actually work.
It IS move-shoot-move and NOT "Oh i get asaulted, lets jump back a few meters".

lol my mistake, sorry I was really tired and forgot that again. :)

Anyway, this rule is much better than the current rule, and importantly, is more fun for both players.

Please, stop trying to push every stupid and idiotic rule from that game into this.

I don't care how stupid or idiotic you think it is, it's better than the current rule.

I was making a point about your own use of generalisations Hena.
