In response to Tas's previous comment on basing my views on pop culture - no these are based on my education. ?Air Combat is my chosen profession and the culture I grew up in. ?Now unless you happen to have flown military aircraft in the past 20 years, know a bunch of people who have, or actually have met and talked to individuals who have been in air to air combat, I think my opinion is a pretty valid one.

G'day orangesm,

I didnt mean to imply that you are are ill-informed, so I hope you didnt take it that way. What I mean is that it is easy to conclude, based on the a veneer of research, that modern air warfare is only a missile vs EW equation. ?Certainly these are highly important issues, but it doesnt stop there. ?As you will be well aware, the impact of C2, AWACs, AAR etc etc are just as important.

And even if it wasnt, this is wargaming, so whatever you enjoy, thats the right answer- even if it is divorsed entirely from reality. ?If you can paint up some minis and enjoy some social interaction and fun across a playing table, then the aim is achieved.

I have met, and frequently talk to, air specialists, fighter pilots and vets. ?They give great insight. ?At the end of the day though, I have found that if you are well versed in the nuaces of such things then it detracts fro one's gamign enjoyment. ?I rarely if ever play modern naval games for this reason. ?I pick holes in rules and stats too easily and at the end of the day...its too close to my chosen profession to be a hobby! ?:)

Sorry... I felt that I needed to qualify my opinion.  I can definitely see a modern air combat game fustrating me with inaccuracies.  Which leads me to some house rules ideas for AI.... but keeping it simple, thinking of them like historical aircraft.

Its incredibly fustrating when the rules (quite naturally) reflect unclassified information which you know to be inaccurate...and things do things they shouldnt... or cant do things they really can!
