In case you missed it, here's the Third Sphere Campaign pdf - graciously hosted by CyberShadow!

I'm still going to say that it's the best option for the basis of the Tau supplement. What do you think CS?

Here is a question - what about those entries - like the Tau Moray that do not exist outside of what we as a community have created?

I bring this up partially because of Nerroth's request for the Moray on the petition list.  It is an example I am sure there are others.

They exist in the Epic armylists... but they won't be 'official' until the armylist is vetted and approved by GW studio personell (The ERC basically).

That's about how I look at it... the non-canon vehicles & configurations are proposals, which probably will become a small part of the overall 40k lore in time, but for the moment are pending approval.

For the Tau... I am against the entirety of the Third Sphere.  Nimbosa and/or Taros I think will work well for "Hunter Cadre" - it gives us 2 Imperial Armies to include Black Templars & Elysians.  We use the 3rdSphere bg to build from.  It can be used for future supplements and the like.
It is an excellent product well done, but more along the lines of FW AI:3 & AI:4 than it is SG (particularly Swordwind).

The Moray is a part of the Tau list. I see no reason why it cant be included at all. Besides, if it gets the nod from SG then it makes it into GW official background. That is one of the real appeals to me of the whole process.

However, this brings up another reason for using 'faction lists' rather than the 'core' list. If the Moray is not liked by SG and cut, there is no reason why we cant use it in a Tau faction list as a specialist craft for our own purposes.

While I think that the 3rd Sphere campaign is an excellent work, I would probably feel that starting our own background would allow us more flexibility in what does and doesnt go in.

I would really like to see what the list we are getting for SG for the Black Legion and Cult are.  This will make the determination of what we do from here.  The Tau book should be follow that.

Obviously the the Black Legion and Cult's will be included.  So what are the other list? An Imperial & the Ulthwe would both need to be playtested to complete it.  And suitable background developed.  So a selection of the Imperial List should rank pretty high, along with the criteria for the list to be included.

More news from Andy - I asked about the possibility of referring to the supplement in the official army list pdf:

I may be able to even have it as a PDF in our articles section. As its a fan project I couldn't mingle it with any official lists. However since we are not at that point with the RTau yet I don't see it as an issue.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the board.  (Although I am on a LOT of the other boards as the same username).  Anyhow, I'm a big fan of the Chaos list and have been planning on building a new Chaos army.  On a side note, graphic design is a hobby of mine. In addition, my brother is a gamer and graphic designer.  Looking at the Black Legion list, it would be a great sourcebook if it was visually spruced up.  I have even been considering doing it myself, until I came across this thread and saw that others were interested in a similar project.

Count me in.  Why not start with a Chaos book by itself?  Or a combined book with Tau and other lists?  We can add some fluff background, great pics of minis, and have it look/feel just like the main rulebook, Swordwind, and/or Black Library publications.

Anyhow, glad to hear that others have the same idea- looking forward to working on it!

Jonathan

You know, after reading the thread and considering the new Imperial Armour books coming out, an Epic online book that had Black legion, Lost and the Damned, and the Adeptus Mechanicus Titan Legion would be an awesome combo!

Well, I'm always glad to support my favoured AMTL. But do you think there is a theme when combining BL, LatD and AMTL in one book?

Sure!  First off, a nice looking chaos list is something most people want.  Second, I would imagine a full titan list could run a close second, only because "who doesn't like huge robots?"  For a background theme, set up the fluff as an Adeptus Mechanicus forgeworld under attack from the forces of chaos, attempting to steal technology, equipment, and titans.  Mechanicus forces rarely fully mobilize unless pressured into it by the high lords of terra, OR if their forgeworld was directly threatened.  Perfect setup to include Chaos and AMTL lists in one book, plus opportunity for great fluff.

Hey Yankeeboy, welcome aboard.  You'll find this community to be very involved and open to newcomers with new ideas.

As for the supplement artwork, the one I'm personally involved in is for Necron, Dark Eldar, and the Tallarn Armored Division.  We are currently working on the storyline right now along with other supplement things (modeling tips, scenarios, etc).

With that said, there is tremendous room for other people's involvement, especially in the area of artwork.  I feel safe in speaking for our supplement group that if you were to volunteer your artwork you would be credited appropriately and all of us would love to see it.

This means shelving the forces of Chaos for this endeavor, so I hope this doesn't pose a problem for you.  The other thing is that we are putting this together as a free-to-the-world project so there could never be any compensation for your hard work (present or future).  If you can get past those two hurdles you are more than welcome to email me / PM me / post here and we'll get started on bringing you up to speed.  The storyline will not be released to the community until it is finished, but we can bring you into the loop privately so you know what we're envisioning.

Who knows, maybe your artwork will inspire US to do something we normally would not have thought to do.

Check out the Dark Eldar list (see link in signature) and you'll get an idea where things are headed.

I hope you will join us.  If not, no hard feelings (it is a lot of work to ask of somebody) and I'll see you around the boards.

Enthusiasm wise you'll find people here are great at rules, okay at playtesting with reports and very busy when it comes to doing beautiful supplements. We all have great ideas, but getting the time to sit down and do knowing but a hobby supplement for a week is beyond many of us :)

TRC, thanks for the words of encouragement...?  ???

We've actually started on this already so the volunteers are there.  Our timeline is for Fall 2007 so I think the realistic goal is helping with recruitment.  :p

Why do I have more trust in you and your projected release date than I do for games workshop's ones?
