I usually play 5000 points, but it's usually SM2, not E:A. Time is almost never an issue since I start playing in the morning and finish mid-afternoon.

2700 to 5000, but have played some big games before.
Played 12,000 Orks vs. Eldar which took all night. Another 15,000 point game of Eldar vs. IG+SM was a brutal 2 day battle, but a nice change from the smaller games.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It has certainly got me thinking.
I get where dafrca is coming from. The whole nature of the Epic game being indeed Epic is what got me into it and made me want to play it instead of 40k. I saw 40k as a skirmish game really because generally playing on an 8x4 board you couldn't really play with a mass army in that scale. Although i think after a year or so of playing we took it to the max and were trying to regularly play games of 10-12k a side. It seemed a good idea at the time but now looking back a lot older and wiser i think it was OTT. Setting up took an age, the deployment areas were way too crowded and most games were either abandoned and called draws or they'd go into a second day before finishing. I think what Chris says makes the most sense. I think i'm going to aim to play games between 3-6k but i'll keep armies some where between 8-10k so there is a bit of flexibility / choice of what to field for each army rather than a set 6k army. This means i can offload some of the IG and Squat items.

Most games played between 2,500-3,000 points.
Did one play one game of just under 4,000 points- you get a LOT of IG for that sort of points total. Especially without titans or air support, just grunts & tanks. Turns took a long while but also chatting over coffee so still doable.
I think 5,000-6,000 points would be OK if and only if you took max number of titans. Then again that would be the main fun of playing games at that size- get to play with units or combinations of units that would n't normally use in 2,700 points GT game.
Cheers
James

Part of the problem with standard games (3K or so) is that you can only bring 1 big titan a side, and these may not be that effective at that points scale either. Get onto 10k plus and you can bring a number of the big boys - that's what epic should be about!

Might help (me at least) if we mention rules system with the points tally. I assume some of those odd numbers are E:A games? Playing SM2/NetEpic, 3000-6000 with 4000 being pretty de rigour. If both players are motivated you can do 4000 in 3 hours....though that can easily become 5....

dafrca | Well, if Tas manages a Maltese holiday - or vice versa....

We do occasionally run X+Y scenarios, like "3000 pts, plus a big titan on each side" or "2700 plus 600 points of air" just to make sure the specialty units get a good workout.

The AT1/SM1 Battleforce Level/Random Scenario system is still the best (IMO !) and we still use them !
