Squats exist in my and many Epic Universes (NetEpic, etc.)... G/W can bugger-off! ?

That being said The Demis may be a new separate race? ??? :;):

I don't have a problem with that! :alien:

Actually, I had an idea modelwise for the Demiurg. Do they do spider riders for Goblins in Warmaster?

Obviously a bit of greenstuffing(gun barrels) would be needed, but largely a 'spidery' look for the automatons seems best. (don't you feel Automaton is a bit more 'gothicy' than Mechanoid?).

Points and Comments:

Close Combat! Firefight should be where it's at. A Demiurg, a trader, a skilled technician, a wise advisor, a grand architect, a master artificer, an artist. Not a soldier or gladiator. Certainly not hefting his axe to go revenge the stubbed toe recieved by his great great uncle Herman.

FF for the Automatons is okay IMO at 5+, but the Demiurg stand(which should be a single Demiurg and his rather more 'skilled' and personalised automatons outfitted for his protector, I'd go with CC 4+, FF 3+, Armour 4+, remove all the assault benefits(PW, Macro Weapon, extra attacks) and give it 2* Assault Cannon. For the Automatons, again I'd drop the assault benefits, and go with 2* Autocannon(or Autocannon + something else, lower ranged Ion Cannon perhaps?)

I'd put it as 8 Automatons for 200pts, with +50 gets you the Demiurg itself(they could be controlled from the ship...). Fearless, perhaps? I'm not so sure, rather, do what the Necrons do(inc for phasing out) perhaps? Makes it seem a bit more 'mercenary', or at least precious(ie they're not Kor'vesa machines, they're Demiurg equipment, and they'll pull them all out if it's a bit too hopeless)

As to how they deploy, Demiurg are expert 'techies', and often tend to be in their spaceships or nowhere to be seen, from that, I'd normally propose some form of option for doing a Deep Strike in 40k, but in Epic, allowing them Planetfall but making it so that they are allowed to select their own LZ, and don't require a dedicated starship(so just decide where and when, and they'll show up).

Then again, there's alot of possibilities for them, but what we have above could be close to showing a decent 'core' formation for a larger Demiurg Expansion...

The word Automaton is already used by RayB in his Thousand Sons fleet list in Warp Rift 9.

Oh peth! I have brought 20 Warriors to the table. ZOMG TeH Ncerons w1ll killzorz mhe!!1!!eleven!. "No pal, they're Dark Eldar Warriors " :/

Okay, a bit odd, but I don't think the reuse of the word is a terrible problem here, especially not when it's appropriate, and they're from different game systems(the Rubric of Ahriman turns all 1kSons that ain't sorcerors into automatons, but they're still denoted as 1ksons).

Agreed. Warriors are warriors, no matter what race you talk about. :p

Ah, now I've made a few revisions to 'de-squat' the proposal, and move it in what I consider to be a far more interesting dynamic. Note that I'm not particularly skilled with epic rules, so formation size and equipping and such should really be left best to folks better in the know, but I really don't see them being CC Monsters. Thats not what the Demiurg are about in gothic, I don't think it'd be what they'd be about in Epic. Resilient, yes, able to hold up an assault, maybe, but not particularly useful in the killing part of the assault.

Demiurg Special rules
Strategy Rating: 2
Initiative: 2+

Mercenaries
Though not renowned as mercenaries, they are susceptible to material gain, often the driving force behind their endeavours, indeed it cannot be denied that Demiurg are amongst the most mercantile of races known in the Galaxy.

Any army list except Orks, Tyranids and Necrons may take Demiurg formations as a Support Formation choice. Each Demiurg formation must be taken only after three standard Support Formation choices have been filled in the army list. Tau-allied players, in contrast, may take a Demiurg formation per two standard Support Formation choices taken instead, as many of the Demiurg are directly in the long term employ and affiliation of the Tau?va. ?Indeed, it has been commented that many that the relations between various Demiurg Brotherhoods goes beyond a simple economic partnership, it is rumoured they have totally acceded to the Tau Empire.

Demiurg Automatons

The Demiurg avoid mustering their space-borne assets except in times of extreme danger, or often the odds of exceptional gain, they rarely risk their own power in a costly and generally expensive ground war, only mustering their precious resources in exceptional circumstances, rarely in the employ of a foreign power, even one with whom they enjoy excellent relations. If they are called upon to offer ground support to their affiliates, this will almost always be in the form of their ubiquitous artificial automaton constructs. The Demiurg ordinarily use these in tandem with their automated mining craft to extract resources from planets and asteroid belts, deployed by their larger attack craft sized constructs and machines. These smaller automatons are reconfigured easily by the Demiurg for ground combat, and while ponderous, they provide an enticing tactical option for any prospective employer in the field of battle.

Demiurg Envoy

When a detachment of automatons are deployed in combat alongside alien forces, a Demiurg Envoy is typically present to lead, direct and oversee them. The Envoy?s presence is vital in maintaining optimum results from the automatons in combat scenarios. Though simply reconfigured, a constant watch must be maintained to prevent against erroneous results from their programming, which was primarily designed for industrial use and require regular corrections when in combat to maintain efficiency. As with most Demiurg, the Envoy tends towards never being seen outside of even their lightest armour in front of foreign, especially aggressive powers. It is noted that their personal equipment numbers a permanent teleport lock which will return the Envoy to safe haven should they be put in unsustainable danger.

The Envoys will regularly surround themselves with the most specialised and more practical automatons and constructs, often ranging from assassin mechanoids, bodyguard drones, intensive point defence automatons and various other systems engineered for their personal security.

Demiurg Automata Deployment (300 points)

Commentary/Fluffyness.

The unique nature of the Demiurg?s position within the Galaxy is intriguing. Their vessels are scattered across the galaxy, though heaviest concentrations number amongst the Eastern Rim and the Cradle of the deep galactic core. They are reclusive, often avoiding contact or notice of other species for many centuries and millennia only to majestically emerge from the corona of a star, appear at the edge of a star system, or slowly and methodically work their way out of the uncharted depths of dense asteroid belts and dust clouds where they reside, often unseen, for the passing of aeons.

Noted in many cultures across the galaxy as a race of uncommonly benevolent traders, artisans, craftsmen and industrialists beyond compare. Though these records individually are scarce, on a large scale their frequency is undeniable. Trade in material resources, technical components and technological knowledge seem most common, with militaristic services seeming incredibly rare, despite the undeniable power associated with any given Demiurg vessel. When put to it, even their smallest ships are capable of deploying significant forces to any given engagement.

Whilst mention of and hearsay regarding the Demiurg is by no means unheard of, sight of a vessel or sign of their passing is less common. Indeed, the sight of a Demiurg itself is so uncommon that there are no largely reliable Imperial accounts of even their most basic aesthetic physiology, though it is known the Tau, Kroot, Nicassar and the likes have fared better in these areas than Imperial Humanity. It is projected an rumoured that the actual occurrence of Demiurg is even rarer than the previously thought given the sheer size of their vessels, extensive automation is commonplace with some sources even claiming a common brotherhood size of only at most scant dozens of Demiurg.

Non-confrontational to the point of pacifists when risking wealth, it is a strange and terrible sight to see one of their mighty Commerce Vessels bearing down on an opponent, though this in itself has become a more common sight in the centuries surrounding the expansion of the Tau, the arrival of the Hivefleets of the Tyranids and the increased Orkoid Activity on the Eastern Fringe. What this is portentous of, if anything, remains unknown.

Their operations consist of the massive industrial bulwarks that are the Demiurg Commerce Vessels. Often the affiliations between inhabiting brotherhoods extend over and across many sectors, leading to an incredibly dispersed power base. They trade for, mine and harvest resources incessantly, even their great starships are noted to be permanently absorbing and scouring the void for interstellar particles, dust and detritus under any circumstance, with many further ventures rumoured to move from asteroid mining, planetoid destruction and even on seemingly rare occasion the scouring of a significant portion of a planets inherent wealth.

The forces more recently observed in the service of their affiliates planetside closely resemble the units deployed across almost all their operations. The ease and rapidity of their conversion to combat purpose is something widely remarked on, with a Demiurg Vessel outfitting it?s automated legions for such intention in little more than the time taken to rouse an Imperial vessels Machine Spirit core. Though generally similar in function, the sheer variety and personalisation, almost individuality, noted in Demiurg constructs is staggeringly immense. Though almost unswervingly it has been a broadly similar type of automaton deployed in the Demiurg forces, it has been rumoured of more intense variation ranging from dedicated combat drones up to reconfigured attack craft and worryingly war-engine sized automated behemoths.

NB- A personal note:I envisage the Demiurg to be immensely capable individuals, controlling their own creations very skilfully, but their warhosts (should we ever truly see them) would be largely independent and self reliant beasts, relying only on any given Demiurg itself rather than a singular supreme commander or focal point.

Conclusion: I always wanted to work on Demiurg 'across the board', now I finally have.

Inquisitor Demiurg
40k Demiurg
Epic Demiurg
Battlefleet Gothic Demiurg

Now, the only one left is how to insert a Demiurg into Necromunda...though my conscience is telling me I've already covered all their likely places and everywhere they could, though not necesserrilly should be with dabbling in Necromunda.

Thanks! What about the formation itself though? Rules too good, too weak, too useless?
