My disposable income took a hit earlier today, as I realised that I have an excellent excuse to request reinforcements... so some more Fire Warriors and Hammerheads are on the way!

My income took a hit today as well for the same thing, and I have no such excuses, oh well.

Congrats!

Thanks for your support guys. I have been thinking about the path forwards from here. I think that the first thing that I will need is an editable version of the EA Tau list version 4.1. Does anyone have a copy of this? What format is it initially put together in? I have pretty good DTP software available, and I would like to work on the presentation, but that will come later. If anyone has an editable version, could they please email it to me (webdude@epic40k.co.uk)? Thanks.

After this, I think that there are three stages to bring this up to speed. Firstly, I will go through the changes proposed by Tactica in his WIP version 4.2.4, signing off and ammending based on his proposals (putting my thoughts out for the community here to debate).

Secondly, I will address the list of proposed changes and alterations for version 4.2 by JimmyGrill. After that, I will work through the threads here and compile the suggestions into a list of proposed ammendments.

From that point on, we can move forward faster, and hopefully get a new version of the list out quickly. How does this sound?

Thanks.

Sounds good C/S !  There is a lot of "chatter" about Tau & Kroot rules, but I'm not really happy/impressed/excited/etc. ... with some of the list/rules ... but much of it is very solid !   Good Luck on your/our Quest !    :;):

CS, I don't have the originally copy of v4.1.

I hand typed a new copy in excell. All my changes are in red. V4.1 is essentially - removing everything that's red. Its easy enough to reverse engineer it back to v4.1 with a bit of time - if you so wish.

What format is it initially put together in?

Based upon my experience, I'd say it was excell or some spreadsheet program. That's a guess though.

I have pretty good DTP software available, and I would like to work on the presentation, but that will come later. If anyone has an editable version, could they please email it to me (webdude@epic40k.co.uk)? Thanks.
I've offered an editable version of v4.2.4, but that doesn't sound like what you're after. LMK if it will of value.

Note, I compiled the WIP v4.2.4 through its many iterations - but its a compilation of the JG recommended v4.2 changes plus what the community has agreed upon in majority.

To say that its "mine" is not fair to the community that deserves just as much credit for its creation. I did nothing more than the labor.

I am happy to hear that the changes Tau WIP v4.2.4 will be part of the consideration process as you move forward. Cheers for that.

Secondly, I will address the list of proposed changes and alterations for version 4.2 by JimmyGrill.
If interested, see above, they are in the WIP v4.2.4 doc. (with acception to the changes that have came since)

After that, I will work through the threads here and compile the suggestions into a list of proposed ammendments.
That should take you pretty close to where Tau WIP v4.2.4 is currently at, but I can appreciate the process and desire to make it your own and apply the changes you see fit.

Just a suggestion though, WIP v4.2.4 should be pretty close to where you want to end up. I'm sure you'll have your own changes, but starting with that and editting as you see fit may save you work that was already done. Your call CS - the editable excel doc are yours if you want it. I also have a running list of questions to be addressed as playtest goes forward.

From that point on, we can move forward faster, and hopefully get a new version of the list out quickly. How does this sound?

Thanks.

Sounds like a plan CS.

LMK what you need from me. My resources are yours.

Well you forget the rest of the my statement ... "but much of it is very solid ..."  The things off the top of my head ... Don't like the TO&Es,  we're still not sure what to do with the Kroot (now Vepids in 40K ?!), Don't like the Support Craft rules ... but like I said a lot of it is good !     :alien:

Legion4- What things don't you like about the SC rules? Have you play tested them a lot and found them to be unreasonably weak or strong? I'm just trying to ascertain whether it's one man's thoughts and dreams vs actual fairness in the rules themselves. Not being disrespectful here either. Curious is more my view - being new to the Tau, myself.

On the Vespids - I personally would not put them into the Tau list at all. They're quite late additions and wonder if they are really necessary.

No, my F/W Tau & Kroot are SIB ... But being a veteran gamer, since the '70s, been playing Epic since '90, we did our own "hybrid' Epic rules ... since they didn't all statisfy us ... And I'm a fan of the T&K, they are the most modern Hi-tech force in Epic, where the Eldar and just Hi-Tech ! :;):  As I said much of the rules appear solid, but I don't like the TO&Es and making a new class of weapon for the Manta.  And I'm not sure what way the Kroot should be used, but I like them and would like to see Vespids in Epic too.  I collect 9+ Epic Armies - IG, SM, Orks, Eldar, Squats, Chaos (including Cultist - Now called L&D !), Traitor SMs, TL, and 'Nids & Tau SIB ...  So generally I think I know my way around the Epic Block !  And I think Jaldon has really done some good work with the Tau     So don't be offended by my comments ... I really want to see a good T&K list and I think we are on the way ... but still need a little fine tuning !  :;):

L4,

I have to admit, the chatter comment was a bit hurtful at first, but I'm sure you didn't mean it in the way I read it.

I'm not sure I understand what a TO&E is.

All, (this is not directed at any one person)

For the record, many of us really feel the WIP Tau list is not only an application of JG's old 'possible v4.2 concepts' which have stood the test of time for the past several months as playtest continued, but it was also a fresh look and direction of the list from lessons learned post JG's departure. v4.1 was really behind the times and well overdue for an update.

Tau WIP v4.2.4 gave Tau development a new life. WIP v4.2.4 still requires plenty of playtest tweaks and tuning, but is headed in the Tau community's perspective of the right direciton from the comments I received. The current v4.2.4 is a public effort which works to get the list where it needs to be in the Tau player community's eyes and is closer than the E:A Tau list has every been to a balanced, viable, flexible list that has options and most importantly is fun for more than one style of player or personality.

Does it mean the Manta's guns are right on target, that Scout on the kroot will fix the historical lack of desire to field them, or that the piranha's formation points are correct - no, it doesn't. But that's what the masses decided on to go with - so we're giving it a go. It just means we are now able to playtest a list that 'feels' better and enjoyable than what it was.

The WIP list has some formations that were much needed, it has tricks such as teleport with stealths, we have worked to aid the quality MW shot and made an effort to address the lack of AT in the v4.1 list, heavier main gun variants of the moray and tiger shark now appear to work and be valuable without making their Ion cannon variants obsolete, support craft continue to be vulnerable but the deflector is teaked and they pack a punch offensively - the more expensive units are starting to feel worth their points, tau do not have to simply rely on a ML to make the list work, all aircraft weapon ranges have been maxed out to 45cm, and some formations hav increased in price. This doesn't mean any of the changes are right. It does mean many of us like the changes though. Heck, many of us are flat out excited with the new look and feel of the tweaked v4.1 list in its new form of Tau WIP v4.2.4.

From one of many that have put a lot of time and energy into both in development discussions as well as playtest ?- Tau WIP v4.2.4 is the result of much more than a compilation of chatter to me. I know for a fact from off forum comments that a lot of you are pleased with what's we've accomplished by tthe Tau community in the WIP list. I'm encouraged by CS's comments regarding the WIP list. I feel confident that this WIP work will not be in vein or lost.

I look forward and hope that CS will apply as much of Tau WIP v4.2.4 as he can and althought I personally would love to see him pick up and move forward from where we are at with the v4.2.4 WIP list, I'll stand behind whatever mode of operation CS sees fit to move forward in.

As I believe in the players here and what we've come up with, I will respectfully work to see that all proposed changes found in WIP v4.2.4 also will find a home in the official v4.2 when it hits the vaults.

Anyway - thanks for listening.

Cheers,

@Cybershadow,
I?m too more than impressed of the Work Tactica put out in such a short time after requesting a summary of wanted Changes. Not having that much time for Playtesting as other might have , I do indeed tested the list so far as my Local opponents wanted to go against Tau, as they remember too sharply what kinda shooty Army they are. In the end, the Changes made stand out, to give the Tau a more flexible Army, as they deserve to be. At least as much as Eldar. By now the List works against all Kinds of established Lists very well, at least for me and my collegues. The minor tweaks remaining won?t have so drastic cuts in the main appearance, unless you want a totally different approach. IMHO the Kroot and possibly any other Ally still have to be developed a little more. But they must be some kind of sweet for us to take them at all. Just because they are cool looking models I wouldn?t field them by now, it?s a shame. The one Unit giving me some concerns are the Stealth. The abilities they deserve are just so many that a lot of people would cry out. I think they are an Infiltration Force to Sabotage Key Installations of the Enemy or Recon ( Pre Alpha Strike) - so they would need to have Scout, Infiltration, and a good Cover Save (Camouflage). Regarding the Teleport ability - I only remeber having read a Fan Story about them beeing dropped out of a Starship in Orbit to an Ork Outpost, where they almost couldn?t be seen,  but their Gunflashes. So IMHO they need some work - or worst case - Drop them.

Cheers!
Steele
