Just had a little spare time earlier and thought I'd put together a preliminary "paint first" 3k force based around a battle company of my favorite Marines - the list HERE having been nailed together by our beloved jimmyzimms. Any kind of critique very welcome, particularly on fluffiness and on effectiveness. Tactical Detachment (Rhinos) + Captain Tactical Detachment + 1 Dreadnought Devastator Detachment + 2 Dreadnoughts Assault Detachment + Chaplain Terminator Detachment + Chaplain 3 Thunderhawk Gunships 5 Landspeeders 3 Storm Talon Gunships 3 Storm Talon Gunships The general idea is having one of the Tactical, the Devastators and the Terminators go in by Thunderhawk, with everything else fast enough to follow in on the first turn. I'd like to squeeze in some scouts to it, perhaps drop one lot of Storm Talons and throw in two detachments of scouts as something to garrison, or perhaps throw them forward in the third Thunderhawk (both units can't go in one, can they?) and let the second Tactical unit deploy in rhinos instead. I just need to find a suitably ugly proxy for the Storm Talons... |

Nice! I've been looking using my navy flyers as count -as for a while so i'd love to see what proxies you dig up. You check out reaper robot supply depot line? example: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/RobotSupplyDepot |

I've often toyed with the idea of a pair of scout formations in a thawk for a late game, T3 objective snatcher without breaking the bank.... |

I had thought about it, but if I did take them I would've had to shuffle other things around. I was quite consciously wanting to stretch out my activations to (hopefully) get the most of my (probable) greater maneuverability, force the enemy to commit then launch a vicious stab at their weakest point - an Emperor's Scalpel compared to my Minervan/Tallarn Emperor's Bloody Great Big Hammer list. |

I hadn't looked until you pointed it out, but the Ghast minis, while not exactly the spitting image, look like they wouldn't look totally out of place. They're still a little chunky, but not so chunky as to look entirely impossible to get off the ground. Thanks for the tip to check them out! |
