Hi all,

Im just finishing off painting up my first 1000pts of Tau for a game of minigeddon this weekend with my son He will be using marines and ill be using the list below:

TAU
Tau Third Phase Expansion (6.6 / NetEA Tournament Pack 2013)

1000pts

Crisis Battlesuit Cadre 275pts
4x XV8 Crisis Battlesuit
Shas'el

Fire Warrior Cadre 225pts
6 Fire Warriors, 3 Devilfish

Broadside Group
6 XV88 Broadsides 325pts

Recon Skimmer Group 175pts
3x Tetra
3x Piranha

Im thinking ill have to keep the marines at arms length, and as I havent played EA for a few years Im trying to keep things as simple as I can (for now at least).

Thoughts ?

Hopefully Ill have a batrep to follow!

I like the general idea of the list. Personally I prefer running a group of 4 Railheads with a Skyray over the Broadsides as my first pick as you have a bit more maneouvrability and you get some AA support and some more long range seeker missiles.

The hammerheads are in my next order! I will be adding some skyrays too as I continue to collect and paint the army.

What do you guys think is an optimum size for the crisis units, I have planned on units of 4 (incl a shas el) but im thinking when points allow, ie 2000pt+ games ill bump them up to 6?

Ill see how I get on with them as the only way to find out is to play a few games I suppose.

I have foudn Crisis suits get suppressed and broken quite easily. My default formation in 3k games has been 6 suits plus 2 gun drones

One thing to remember about Minigeddon is that there are no air units.
Whilst Skyrays are fantastic, their main goal is AA so it's sort of wasted in a Minigeddon game.

I had my first game today, the Tau got literally annihilated! lol

I will have to think a bit more about how to use this army, Im thinking of upping the crisis suits to 5 or 6, and maybe dropping the broadsides for now and trying out the hammerheads (once painted of course).

1000 pts Tau is a tough one, really hard to pic a force. Looks like you have a good start. Make sure that all the units support each other and don't go off their separate ways.

Yep it is a difficult one, well we had another game this afternoon, and although it was technically a draw, the Tau had the marines on the back foot, it got to the stage where the emperors finest were pretty much pinned in place, every time they tried to move they were met with a hail of firepower.

It was the loss of the recon skimmer group and their all important markerlights that gave the marines a chance. Next on the painting list....Pathfinders!

Im thinking that bigger games are going to be the way forward for the Tau.
