Everyone seems to put the maximum in, I'm planning to run Yme-loc with about 4 formations of Falcons I only have three Firestorms. Should I invest in more? If so how many? I also have a formation of Fire Prisms. |

I personally tend to use 4, or 2 plus a formation of fire prisms when using the EpicUK list (in which they have AA). I've not played ymeloc though. |

Mostly I have been selecting falcon formations so as to get some AA cover. Initially that was because I had no night wings to provide a fighter alternative. Since then I have come to appreciate having some falcons in their own right. Basically it depends on the amount of air power that your opponents take. I feel that four AA platforms is about a minimum. The Fire Storms are also useful in allowing AP fire out to 45 cm. The fire storms are target number one for people you focus on air power. My more recent outings with Yme Loc focused on Cobras so I had some extra ground based AA cover from them, minimal that it was. |

To be fair, the answer does depend slightly on which version of the army lists that you use. I will assume that you are using the latest compendium in this forum. As Andrew says, many / most people field at least one and usually two Firestorms in each Falcon formation if you anticipate facing any air-power. The reduction in firepower is more than compensated for by the AA and the increased AP range. Fielding 6x units in the SoV formation also makes the Firestorms less vulnerable to shooting or suppression and gives more bite generally. However, you will note that the Fire-Prisms have lost their AA in favour of greater AT capabilities. If you need more AA, then you need to use a titan or Cobra(s) - which have their own strategies. Given you have three Firestorms, I would invest in another three (conveniently a single GW pack if you can find it), and use three or four formations of 5 / 6 units depending on your other list choices to match your strategy. |
