Hi I need some advice on the space marines land speeders.

First of all are you mixing the units in a formation? or have them more dedicated one type? (normal and tornado)

Also are people using the typhoon? they are a bit more expensive +25 points swap.
And how many in a formation?

I have two formations; One is the current metal GW speeders, and they are assembled in a mi (3x MM, 1x AC, 1x Typhoon). The other is old-school plastic speeders, where one of the plasma(?) cannons was missing. I replaced that with a scratch Typhoon, so that formation is 4x MM and 1x Typhoon.

I think the MM version works best; They usually wants to move up close into FF support range anyway, so the shorter range of the MM is no concern.

I like having a single Typhoon in each formation, just in case I want to prep a far-off target with a blast marker.

I normally use 2*5 MM. The speeders are fast enough to get them in support range for an engagement in every turn except perhaps sometimes the first, and in the FF role I prefer the MW ability to deal with the targets that are not easily harmed with bolter and chainsword.

The MW FF on a fast skimmer really is a gift and someone else will have to place the prep blast marker instead.

...but if the speeders are to be included in a blue marine army in the Copenhagen area, I would strongly recommend a mix of all available types of speeders. Just to make the formation flexible and all ;)

Mostly dedicated to a single type, although some players think it is nice to have one longer-range unit for placing an odd BM if you can't quite reach. Personally, I usually go all-Melta or all-Typhoon.

Typhoons work well as a fast fire support formation. With the low to-hit values they can zip around the board on double moves and still inflict damage. While they are fragile compared to most armor support, their speed, range and ability to pop up allow them to limit the enemy's ability to counter-attack them. Late in the game, their speed, Scout ZoC and range makes them excellent for objective grabs or denial.
