Anyone want to play epic on vassal this weekend/friday evening?
Image

Download and information on vassal: http://www.vassalengine.org/
(you will also need the vassal epic module to play, you'll need to get this from another player as it is not hosted on the site. AFAIK latest widely available version is v1.1.13, there is also a 1.2.0 with knights and other toys, but fewer people have that module)

I can be pretty flexible with my time on friday evening, saturday and sunday (possible ill have something i can't move around on sunday evening.)

I'm GMT+1 at present (UK), but the clocks are going back an hour on Sunday.
Happy to try getting up extra early or starting late to match timezones if we arrange it in advance.

EUK lists preferred but not required.

Vastly prefer to play with voice coms at the same time to speed the game up. Skype or hangouts works best for me.

This weekend unfortunately no but I would really like to give it a try another time. I have the Vassal client but I haven't used it to play epic before.

Why use Vassal when you can use Tabletop?

Is Tabletop available to download then? That's why I'd use vassal...

anyone got ideas for how to handle spacecraft co-ordinates in vassal?
easy to plot because you can just put a blob on a print screen of the map in Paint (or similar), but then hiding/revealing is harder. Transfer them in a p/w protected archive and owner gives opponent pw to check on activation?
Email them to a disposable mail address (so, timestamped in inbox) then give the inbox URL on activation? (opponent could just set up a few different addresses with different co-ords in then though …)

*edit: passworded dropbox folder with upload timestamp would be easier i guess :P

There is a notes area somewhere in vassal that you can put in hidden notes and then reveal them during the game. Will look when I get home to make sure this function is in the epic client, should be as it's core as far as I know.

ah yes, there it is! much simpler, thank's for the info

(in the EA module: Notes is under the army list button, then within that window there is an option for delayed reveal notes)

I would but I am managing to get to a club for the first time in a few months, so will have to pass.

Are either of these programs play by mail? I would have far more time in little bits during a week, rather than playing a whole session in one go.

And if either are play by mail, is anyone up for a small game?

With vassal you could just email the save file between each other, but it would be hard to do things like overwatch in an expedient manner. If anything was on overwatch you'd have to wait for a response on if you're opponent was going to take the trigger each time you moved as a valid target. (same for CAP)

PMs sent to people to enable them to play Tabletop.

I can't see play by mail working that well (I imagine it could take several months to play a game?), but you could certainly play for an hour or two (or however long) at a time then save it and play over multiple sessions during the week.

I he's anything like me, the problem is as much not knowing exactly when you'll have a spare bit of time, as it is not having much of it.

Yep, that is a large part of my problem. I usually work hours that no one else I know does (Saturdays and Sundays, evenings etc) so it is easier to get in a game that's play by mail.

However I'm going to try one of these next time I can.
