![]() Hello and Welcome Announcing the Manchester Mangle 2012, to be held at Hope Mill, Manchester on Saturday the 29th September 2012. The Mangle is the new incarnation for the Stockport Stockade. We have been listening carefully to feedback from previous Stockades and have made some changes to the format and venue. Chris "Curis" Webb Mangle Organiser Venue A few minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly, Hope Mill is a thriving creative hotbed. Its airy, open spaces call to Manchester's creative professionals. ![]() A delicious, aspirational lunch is included in the ticket price. Parking is free and plentiful. The Gallery, 5th Floor, Hope Mill Pollard Street, Ancoats, Manchester M4 7JA England Provisional Schedule 09:30 - 09:45 Working out exactly where it is, phoning people to check directions 09:45 - 12:00 Game 1 12:00- 12:45 Top banana lunch (may or may not include musa balbisiana) 12:45 - 15:00 Game 2 15:00 - 17:15 Game 3 17:15-17:30 Awards and farewells 17:30 Hodding off to Manchester for drinks and dinner (optional) The Top Three Players will each play three games over the course of the day, and receive 0 to 32 Tournament Points for each one. Note, there are no additional ‘soft scores’ for painting, sportsmanship, or poems about your army. The three players that have scored the most Tournament Points at the end of the day will receive recognition for their achievement. Wooden Spoon Additionally, there will be a prize for the player with the least Tournament Points – an SPAYSE MAHREEN wooden spoon. Epic UK Championship Additionally additionally, this event is part of the Epic UK tournament circuit. Competing in this event qualifies you for Championship points, which ranks you against this nation’s other Epic: Armageddon generals. Full details on this aspect are available over at Epic UK. Players’ Choice Award Though (unlike other Epic events) there are no Tournament Points available for painting armies, players are encouraged to paint and model their armies to the best of their abilities. At lunchtime on both days players will have an opportunity to set up their armies for judging and general pageantry. Please do set up your army even if you dismiss your chances at winning a painting award as it’s nice to look at other people’s armies, and photograph them for the internet-going public. Players will receive a slip for nominating the most Visually Awesome Army – Players’ Choice, and should return it to the organiser’s drop box by the end of lunch. The player with the most votes will receive the Awesomest Army Prize. Judges’ Choice Award Likewise, there will be a prize for the most visually awesome army in the eyes of the judges. Understandably, this is the Visually Awesome Army – Judges’ Choice award. Least Awesome Army This year, since it’s socially acceptable to acknowledge and slightly rib the player with the lowest Tournament Points, we will also be poking fun at someone’s sub-par painting. There will be an anti-award for bringing the army that looks like it was painted with crayon and based using pasta shapes and glitter. Permitted Lists Players can select a 3,000 point army from one of the Epic UK approved lists http://epic-uk.co.uk/wp/army-lists/ Army Roster Please submit a copy of your army roster to cdawebb@gmail.com no later than midday Saturday 22nd September 2012. This is both to check that you are using a legal army list and to ensure that all players have kept in mind the ethos of a “fun” tournament. If your army list does not (in the opinions of the organisers) represent this ethos it will be sent back to you for re-submission with an explanation of what you may want to consider changing (we’re not expecting to have to do this, you’re all nice guys right, but we reserve the right to in extreme cases). Please do not use acronyms or short hand on your roster. Objectivity Two of the three games will be fought using the standard Grand Tournament scenario, as you can find in the rulebook section 6.1. One game on each day will be fought slightly differently. It will use the special Stockade scenario – Objectivity. Quote: Choose table edge/corners, place objective markers, garrison, prepare spacecraft and deploy as per the grand tournament scenario. The goals are different from the Grand Tournament scenario. Objectivity Turn 1: You achieve this objective by capturing at least as many objectives at the end of turn 1 as your opponent. If both players control the same number of objectives they both achieve this goal. As per the Grand Tournament scenario you capture an objective if you have a unit within 15cms of it in the end phase and your opponent does not. An objective is contested if both sides have a unit within 15cms of it in the end phase. Units from broken formations or from formations that have rallied that end phase can not capture or contest objectives. Aircraft which have landed may not capture an objective on the same turn that it lands. However, a landed aircraft may immediately contest an objective. Objectivity Turn 2: You achieve this objective by capturing at least as many objectives at the end of turn 2 as your opponent... Objectivity Turn 3: You achieve this objective by capturing at least as many objectives at the end of turn 3 as your opponent... Objectivity Turn 4: You achieve this objective by capturing at least as many objectives at the end of turn 4 as your opponent... Break Their Spirit: As per the Grand Tournament scenario. At the end of turn 3 if either player has achieved more goals than their opponent then the game ends and you work out Tournament Points using the scoring matrix below. If both players have achieved the same number of goals at the end of turn 3 proceed to a turn 4. At the end of turn 4 if either player has achieved more goals than their opponent then the game ends and you work out Tournament Points. If both players have achieved the same number of goals at the end of turn 4 the game ends in a draw and you should work out victory points as per the Grand Tournament scenario. Please note, there is no turn 5. Tickets Tickets include parking and lunch, and are priced at £20. We appreciate this is a massive hike on previous Stockades, but it reflects the costs of a new quality venue and a beautiful lunch. And, as with previous years, any leftover ticket monies get put behind the bar for you to enjoy. Please PayPal your £20 to cdawebb@gmail.com. Confirmed Entrants (Last updated Monday 24th September) Chris Webb Tim Hunt Matt Arnold Steve Gullick Dave Thomas Si Jenkins Mark Roberts Alex Swarbrick Richard Laking Tom Sanders Mike Thomas Christian Cummings |

Brilliant, just what I needed to see this morning. (Just as long as bananas are not part of the lunch menu.) |

Baring some world altering catastrophe (one of my cats decides to hack up a hair all in my mini case or something) I'll be there. I probably won't even bring tyranids this time either! |

Brilliant. I had a cat hack up all over my treasured Moleskine once. Whole house to vomit its wretched hair and half-digested worms in - and it did so splat in the centre of my little black book. |

You've ran the objectivity scenario before, right? What are your impressions about it? Keen to try new things at the club. |

I ran Objectivity last year, Carlos. I was keen to develop a scenario that was different to the standard Grand Tournament affair where you spend two and a half turns dancing around each other then suddenly descending on the objectives with marching scouts and aircraft. It means armies are pouncing objectives from the first turn. I also wanted to create objectives which are like "Break Their Spirit" - where they're achieved and can't be contested later in the game. Criticism of the scenario is that is favours armies that garrison heavily over armies which might want to deploy later via spaceship. It also takes emphasis off overly-mobile armies whose strategy is picking on the opponent's blitz. However, these are all interesting tactical challenges you can design a list around beforehand. I rather like it. |

I'm sure that I played Steve54 at the Objectivity scenario in a tournament. It was a straight forward win to me, but for the life of me I can't remember what we were playing nor remember which tournament it was at. We agreed afterwards that my army was better suited to the scenario than his. Last years Stockport Stockade, that was it. |

That was Game 2 at Stockade 2011, Tim. You were playing Dark Angels, Steve Vanaheim. |

From last year it favours high activation, high initiative armies. If you take lowish actuvation, low SR you have to push forward turn 1 to contest objectives but then get mauled at the start of turn 2 as you have to put your units in danger |
