Post subject: | EPIC UK Update - the 2009 season is dead |
Hello all EPIC fans, Well the 2009 EPIC tournament season is over; the final blast markers have been placed, the final macro weapons shot and the final assault won (or lost depending on your point of view). Armies are heading back into their dark cases to be stored away for the winter ... but do not despair, the 2010 EPIC tournament season will soon start! However before we talk about the 2010 EPIC season (I know you're eager ... but this will just take a minute) we have to announce the winners of the EPIC GT and, of course, the Championship winner for 2009. After Steve Gullick decided to use an army that he had already used this year (and Joe Jephson pulled out at the last minute) there were only two people in the running. Mark Hargrave was beating David Thomas by just three points, before this event, and therefore had to stay within one or two places of David to win the championship. Alas it was not to be and David Thomas' legendary skill (and dice) came into the play and he didn't loose a single game all weekend taking another tournament victory and the Championship ... well done to David on retaining his championship in such an impressive way, however don't be complacent ... there's allot of new talent pushing it's way through for the 2010 season. The first talent to speak of is Mark Preston; 2nd at the GT making that two top three tournament placings this year, with two different armies ... well done to Mark. Richard Laking took third place; only his 1st year playing EPIC tournaments and his 3rd tournament (quite fitting really ... 3rd tournament and a 3rd place). Chris Steel picked up a triple whammy; players choice best painted for his Imperial Guard, joint best sportsman (however he lost the roll off to David Bartley ... some of the best dice those two had thrown all tournament) and last place. And finally, but by no means least, Chris Webb kept up his EPIC tradition of winning a painting award in each EPIC event he's participated in; this time the judges painting award was awarded for his Space Marines. It was a fantastic event and all had a great time; just remember it's only 55 days until the first tournament of the New Year. Oh and talking about the new year below is just a quick run down of when EPIC tournaments are likely be taking place in 2010: Winter Warmer - Bristol - 23rd January Brussels International Tournament - Brussels - 6th and 7th February Full Scale Assault - Mansfield - February / March Open War - Warhammer World - May Club Challenge - Mansfield - May Battle of the Chumps - Warhammer World - June London - err London - July Britcon - Manchester - August Into the Breach - Mansfield - September Open War - Warhammer World - October EPIC UK GT - Mansfield - November There will of course be further updates when tournament dates have been confirmed (hopefully they won't be too long away) however you can always keep up to date by visiting the EPIC UK tournament calendar on our website (www.epic-uk.co.uk) Well that's it from EPIC UK towers; we're all celebrating EPIC UK's first EPIC season ... lots of ice cream and jelly is being eaten ... yummy. All that is left for us to say is have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year (just encase we don't email you lot again before the big events). Toodle Pip! |
