What ToS said.

Interested to hear how the objectivity scenario goes. Always like to try something different to the standard Tourney game...

And how did RichardL get on, given his extremely 'courageous' intention to travel up and back in a day?

Manchester Mangle saw me unleash my LatD army onto the tournament scene again. There were two reasons for this. Firstly so that I could claim 4 more Championship points and secondly so that I had a force that I was comfortable playing with for the second round Objectivity scenario.

First round saw me drawn against Richard L and his cut down Iyanden force. The game was a standard GT scenario which saw my SR 2 LatD win the initiative in all three turns. This swung the game heavily in my favour as I was able to break a formation of Falcons in my first turn and blunt Richard’s plans to crush my forces at the start of the second. This coupled with my ability to rolls 5s & 6s for any combat resolution and Richard not being able to hit more than a few times whenever he shot or engaged led to a 2-0 victory in turn 3.

Second round, Objectivity, and I faced Rug and his BT Eldar. This turned out to be a long tactical game where I used my advantage of numbers to swamp objectives in the first turn claiming a point and then we drew every other turn after that. As the scenario was based on holding or contesting objectives and BTS I was able to throw formations at Rug’s and not worry about losing units or the odd formation or two. Rug also suffered from losing one of his BTS Revenants in the first turn which helped cut back on the number of shots I was facing outside of engagements. End of turn three I was able to claim a 3-2 victory.

The third round saw me facing Christian and his Siege Masters. Christian had had two 4-0 victories and was the man to beat. We were back on the GT scenario and I placed objectives close to the centre line to bring the Siegers forward and spread them out. This worked and with my Hellfire Cannons popping infantry in bunkers, Doomwings going after the artillery and zombies causing problems of their own.

Overall a great set of games, it was a pity that I didn’t get a chance to play against one of the three Necron lists, but a win is a win and three of them won me the tournament. Open War in two weeks time – Bring it on ;D

Was good fun :) Shame the iyanden didn't do better, i still can't believe Tim won the initiative in our game all 3 turns in a row! the 2nd turn especially saw a big swing with him taking down 2 of my activations before i got a chance to do anything.

I got to play necrons second game, which was good fun! Sadly for Alex he was pretty new tournament wise, and trying to get up close and personal with Wraithguard proved the necrons undoing in objectivity. He had some stinking dice too, the worst bit being a monolith and obelisks engaging some nightspinners and losing.

Game 3 against Steve really highlighted the Iyanden weaknesses, that of lack of mobility - things started badly when Steve took out both my superheavy tanks with his space ship, and it kinda went downhill from there. I might have managed a draw out of it, but he managed to in the end snag a 2-0 win on turn 4 after the wraithguard kept failing to activate. Sad times...

Still, it was nice to win the best painted award at least!

Travel wise while i've been pretty wiped out today, i managed it there and back in just over 3.5 hours each way, which i thought was rather good!

A well done to Tim as well, looks like this year's championship is pretty much in the bag now ;)

Had a good laugh and was one of two people who came away witha useful prize...the wooden spoon!!!!! ;)

Fits game was againt Chrisitan and his seigemasters. the game was interesting and i had some initial sucess but buy turn 3 we both knew that i had no way of removing him from his bunkers in time.

Second game was against Tim and his Iyaden Wraithgaurd army. As he said... it went badly.....
I thought that it would hurt less if i engaged them in base to base combat as they have no macro there... didnt work.

also i had some pretty bad combat results and was plagued by 'snake eyes'. in one round my destroyers failed to take a unit of falcons in combat when i rolled double 1 :(
and then the monoliths failed to take a unit of spinners when the same thing happened :( :(
honestly i didnt know how to handle the army tho.

the third game was againt Curis and his khorne army.
this game i would have been in controll and could have won if i had kept my eyes on the objectives...however i went gungho and set about destroying his army. :P oopss

I was also doing silly mistakes and deploying units wrong.
However i had a gret time so is all god in the end ;)

Alex

A proper good tournament!

First game up I drew Rug and his unintentionally Anti-Cron Eldar. Very good game, lots of tactical jiggery pokery with Rug deploying his entire force into a big castle and working from there. His Revenants were horrendously effective and I really didn't seem to have much of a counter for them. I had some pretty stinking armour saves in the first turn too losing a Monolith and an Obelisk to a round of nightspinner fire. Overall though Rug deserved his win and I actually felt quite pleased with the 2-0 defeat.

Second game and objectivity vs Simon Jenkin's marines. Now this was an army I'd practised again and also one that does not match up too well vs Necrons. I took his BTS in the first turn but Si took the Objectivity. Turn 2 was level pegging on objectives and turn 3 I took the objectivity VC, leaving the Necrons victorious on 3-2.

Final game saw me matched up against Mike T's Necrons. Truth be told I had absolutely no idea how to handle this army. I had more activations but hios vehicles were heavier and his phalanxes were much stronger. To be perfectly honest I made a right pigs ear of it and Mike punished me 3-0.

Very much enjoyed the day and seeing all the guys. Having only very recently put the Necrons together I was a bit unsure of their capabilities and had never actually used them against 2 of the 3 races I ended up playing. I did come away feeling quite pleased with my performance against 3 hardened tournament vets who were all perfect gentlemen and a real pleasure to spend most of a day playing toy soldiers with. I've taken a lot of learning points away from the event, am having a list re-jiggle and looking forward to next time.

The Stompcrons will return...
